Ask them to confirm that they've changed the aux belt as it should have been done. :) Enjoy the car when you get it and post some pics on the forum. What colour and age have you bought?
Did you pay for the 36k service or did the dealer have it done for you collecting the car? The dealer I bought from claimed to have done the 36k service but on checking with the service department the Aux belt was never changed. Basically they were happy to let me drive around for 12k miles with...
Hi edde, they have not changed the cam belt but should have done the aux belt as i was told they had performed the 36k service for me collecting the car. The service department told me today that all they actually did was a prep service.
You'd recommend getting both done now even though the...
The aux belt has apparently not been done by the dealer before I collected the car so this will need done asap. Is it worthwhile having this done on its own for now or should I opt to have both done now? What cost am I looking at for the aux belt and air filter alone inc fitting?
My car has very few rattles although I have noticed that the clear plastic covering the dash dials tends to rattle and vibrate. Is it possible to tighten this somehow?
I'm probably best to change it now while I have the money available for it. I intend keeping the car for 2 to 3 years so I'll have to pay out sooner or later so it may as well be sooner.
Danny, how many miles had your car covered when your belt snapped? What year is your car?
I'm not sure if the Aux belt has ever been changed in the car and it's now not due a service till 44k miles (last serviced at 32k), how much is it to get this done on its own?
I'm the only person posting here :D
I read through this thread and it says the cam belt change is not required till 72k miles. Is this correct? Many people on the forums have mentioned having the belt changed at 36k or 48k miles.

I've got £300 spare right now which I was going to use for a TomTom ONE but as I already have it on my phone I think the money would be better spent on the car. It's a choice of getting the cam and aux belts changed or buying a new exhaust to replace the rusty looking standard one.
My 172 definately has the kick at 5k rpm and from there onwards it turns crazy :) My old Saxo VTS used to do a similar thing and I loved it. It'll make you smile.
I have the Viper fitted and it is good quality so far. It does everything you'd need of it and it's Cat1. Plenty of Aux addons will be available for it this month and I think it's better value than the Clifford.
It's switchable but if your budget is £6.5k (if buying from a dealer rather than private) then you're probably looking at an older model without the traction control. CC and AC is standard on the full fat 172. Climate control works by maintaining the temp that you set on the digital display.

If you don't notice a difference between this and your c2 then something is seriously wrong with you :D It's way quicker than the Saxo vtr and you thought that felt better than the c2.
If it's going to be a everyday runabout then I'd buy a full fat version of the 172 which you can now buy at very good used prices. All depends how important added comforts are to you.
My Saxo VTR was ok but I far preferred the VTS while I had it. The 172 I own is basically an improvement on the Saxo VTS in every way but retaining the fun it provided. More comfort, slightly better performance and a more solid feeling car.
