Thanks, thats my plan I reckon. Or something similar. Also, I wont be trying for lap records when I'm on track so a decent road setup should be ok on track. I hope...
See thats the thing, the Apex springs just seem to 'not work' as suspension for dealing with bumps. Any instance where you've loaded up the suspension (i.e. longer corners) and then either cross some undulations/broken road surface/small pothole, the car feels very unstable. Enough to make you...
Already got mine fitted. Just turned a sleeve and threaded it. Fits like a dream now. Regarding the price, he's probably out of stock, I've seen a few sellers do that.
Thanks for the info guys. See this is where my confusion is coming from. General consensus is that cup shocks and cooksport springs and great for everything. And general consensus on B14s is they're too soft for track work. Its really difficult trying to get my head around the actual facts.
I have this job coming up and for me, its less about the difficulty of the job, and more about dealing with all the seized bolts and bleed nipples that are just about to snap. And also, if these things do go wrong, then they should be able to get parts sharpish.
Some treats arrived.
The tow hook isn't fitted as I ordered over eagerly and presumed it would screw into the standard fitting. It didn't. Contemplating re-ordering a different one or making this fit. The fact I already have this is a big factor. Got the side repeaters fitted, as...
Right then. A suspension upgrade is required. I'm currently on KYB shocks and Apex springs. They were fitted to the car when I bought it but I've gone off the idea of dying upside down in a field on fire. Also I suspect one shock is weeping oil. However it looks amazing. The ride height is spot...
Been researching and the B14s are a bit soft for the road. But good point about the Apex springs being bad on country roads - tracks aren't very bumpy are they!
Impreza was a great road car but could have done with getting a cheap daily and keeping it for weekends but I was a one car man back then.
Yep its on Apex springs and to be honest they're bloody awful! Looking to swap to coilovers (as I have done on all my cars) but its a minefield searching...
Weight saving
No, its simply a looks thing. Really don't like rear wipers. Never use them, plus the car isn't a daily so it doesn't need to be super practical.
Had a run out last weekend, performed well with the big boys!
Also aimed to address a few niggles this weekend, had a patch of wheel wobble but after checking runout on the wheels it just seems to be a wheel out of balance.
Had some knocking from the rear, thought it was the top mounts or...
That explains why I struggled to find it when searching online! Just out of interest @Ads29 , if you haven't had any issues why are you wanting to change?
Noticed some knocking/noises from the rear in my 172, especially when the suspension is loaded up i.e. long corner and a bump. Is this likely to be topmounts or the damper being knackered? Its on unknown lowering springs and KYB shocks.
Two questions here - I'll be checking my brakes (strip down and make sure nothings seized) as they seem to be a bit inconsistent (soft pedal, wont sto, then next minute squealing the rears)
Firstly, whats a recommended brake fluid for fast road & track use? From research I'm leaning towards ATE...
