Ignore that, its usually where the regulator sits (on a Ph1 engine, you can probably see the silver regulator in my picture). On a 172 Ph2/182 it isn't used as there is only a single feed to the fuel rail, there is no return to the pump.
Quite possibly, I have a thick piece of solid rubber wedged down one side of mine which seems to have made it last forever. Less movement than a Vibratechnics mount for £free.
Yeah proper Teng jobby torque wrench wise, seperate angle gauge too and all seemed well. Used same equipment last time round and it was fine...

I think im just gona have to leave it be, only got this month for it to last then its being put...
Yeah, headgasket was done in March/April 2009, ran fine all year apart from a bit of smoking (stem seals). Had it off in Jan/Feb 2010 replaced them, head skimmed at same time along with a new HG, been fine since then zero oil usage or smoking up until this coolant problem started...

Yeah, ive paid £20-30 for second handers before, bit of a saving over new. Ive seen one split in the middle too, thought it was raining then realised it was spraying out the front
May be cracked, one of mine did on the bottom..
Probably cheaper trying to get a second hander, think they are fairly pricey new! I think 172Ben still has the one he took off his car
The one on my car at the moment gets smaller at the inside end...
But I do have another N/S shaft that does not get as small... so I guess it could be either?
I used normal body paint on mine, mixed from Auto-Paint, who are luckily only down the road. The areas around the letters have bubbled a tiny bit due to heat, but I used etch primer under it and it seems to have lasted (18 months)...
