Mine started doing it one day just randomly when it happened, ran and drove fine for 9 months and then I changed them and it doesnt do it anymore

Does it do it when it revs up, then again when it revs down....? Either way its more than likely the solenoid firing/shutting off, might just be a slightly different noise

Old video but... OpdEFOiCo6Q The noise is the solenoid firing, 100% sounds the same with yours, i replaced my dephaser and solenoid and its silent now... I drove it all year with it like that....was fine.

Yeah, can be had cheap on here. Think someone was selling some engine bits in the for sale section, although they do come up all the time

The thread in the side cover that the bolt goes down into is probably f*cked - new side cover needed to fix it...

Yeah - the fitments for the mechanism are different... Adam had the full 172 lines (both parts) and ran them to the pump iirc, so hes got the 172 quick release underneath where it should be

Im using 6mm steel joiners between the 172 and valver lines IIRC, which were a tight fit

It sounds hollow as f*ck on idle, just how mine used to before I swapped the dephaser. You can also hear the solenoid activate and then deactivate as it passes the VVT cutoff/rpm. I swapped both of mine earlier in the year and its like a different engine... I used it for a full year sounding...

Re: Engine fucked... My old one was noisey as f*ck, well it was the dephaser in the end though. I took the head off, replaced everything and fitted another dephaser and solenoid, quiet as anything now in comparison!
