Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Quite alot done today - set about fitting the whole 172 servo/master cylinder setup to the car.
I got hold of a 172 Cup Master cylinder a while back to fit to the car, as I was still running the '1.2' item from a scrap yard that had a bit too much pedal...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
It was on the WilliamsClio stand, near ClioSport :)
Little bit of an update. My current fuel pump has done an unknown milage (170k+ after thinking about it), so ive always been weary of it packing up like the original one from the car did on the way to...
Does it do it when it revs up, then again when it revs down....? Either way its more than likely the solenoid firing/shutting off, might just be a slightly different noise
Old video but...

The noise is the solenoid firing, 100% sounds the same with yours, i replaced my dephaser and solenoid and its silent now...
I drove it all year with it like that....was fine.
Yeah - the fitments for the mechanism are different... Adam had the full 172 lines (both parts) and ran them to the pump iirc, so hes got the 172 quick release underneath where it should be
yeah, couldnt be bothered fitting the other side of the 172 line to make the 'quick release' work....as it dosent seem to connect to the valver line properly anyway. Just got a couple of steel joiners and joined them both. Im sure they were 6mm internal dia. joiners, I can check tomorrow in my...
It sounds hollow as f*ck on idle, just how mine used to before I swapped the dephaser. You can also hear the solenoid activate and then deactivate as it passes the VVT cutoff/rpm.
I swapped both of mine earlier in the year and its like a different engine... I used it for a full year sounding...
Re: Mk1 F4R/172'd Track Car Project
Still not got the machined hub back yet, or a replacement driveshaft. Il do a proper update once I get round to doing them.
I spent some time hiding ALL the wiring up inside the dash top the other day, nothing visible now really! As said earlier - picture of...
Good little mini meet and catch up, first one ive managed to get my car to this year I think... Started with Bifcaids trying to get in...lol.
Then Mike brought out his perfect plate and we proceeded to cable tie it on, lol...
Re: Engine fucked...
My old one was noisey as f*ck, well it was the dephaser in the end though. I took the head off, replaced everything and fitted another dephaser and solenoid, quiet as anything now in comparison!
VW Racing, lol!
Thanks for making me run out of fuel after that too - it was bogging like f*ck down the motorway haha.
My pictures will be here shortly...
