When i first bought it i was unsure whether it was worth it for a one off job, but over the years its absolutely earned its money. Must have done at least 10 sets of bearings and loads of bushes and other random jobs. Still s**t myself every time i use it if a bearing case moves with a bang like...
Small update
Box back on, starter etc all bolts torqued. Filled with running in mineral oil and took plugs out/put turbo oil feed into a bottle and span engine over on starter to prime oil system. Oil came out of the feed after a few seconds so thats good, its ready to start.
Plugs gapped to...
Weekend update
Wheel bearing noise has reduced quite a bit with the fronts done, but still some noise on the back at speed. Its never going to be a fecking rolls royce but can be improved as the drone at 70 is annoying.
Got 2x rear bearings from local factors today £25 the pair.
Jacked up...
Spare hour today.
Reset self adjusting mech on the clutch. Ive done this in my press before, but as the trophy is in the way and couldnt be arsed moving it, done it with a puller instead. The self adjusting mech had barely moved but didnt want to risk any issues.
Simply compress the pressure...
Just seen the new piston pics. Should give a fair increase in compression, interested to see how it all comes together, keep the updates coming mate (y)
Ive fixed a few immob red light of doom and its always related to the underbonnet fusebox area. Nice easy one this one luckily.
Interestingly i tried the obd scanner on clip today. No faults present apparently, id already went into the ecus and found the info logged so knew faults were stored...
Monday update
Another day another small issue. Go out on a site visit to Cramlington approx an hr away/100 mile round trip. Make it there no fuss and on way back stop at local garage to get toe set.
Pull up and turn engine off no issues. My mate shouts me to bring it in, go to start and red...
Sunday update
Engine not in sadly as spent all day yesterday fixing the daily so not as much progress made as planned. Had a couple of hours spare this afternoon, so got a bit more done.
The alternator and ac pump were looking well weathered and would have let the side down, so masked them up...
Everything refitted and torqued to spec in an hr this morning before the crap weather set in.
Improvements all round, wheel bearing noise gone, steering is sharper, ride is better. Brakes are improved as serviced them whilst apart and freed off the sliders as passenger one was seized.
Done 20...
Made a start on the blue dci today.
Picked parts up at 130pm, Stripped and ready in an hr. Noted o/s balljoint sloppy/play so rang local motorfactors and they had a new one in stock.
Shot down and picked it up. Pressed new wheel bearings in. Go to fit new balljoint and its an m12 one where i...
Cheers mate! the f4r is an ugly engine agreed. The older vaux lumps always looked sweet, nice rocker cover design. Renault always looked crap in comparison, engine cover is best thing for f4r usually!
Cheers mate. I know once its fitted its all downhill from here too cant stop the corrosion...
Quick hour again today
Turbo on, decat on and torqued. Oil feed/return fitted and torqued.
Mocked up boost hose. Doesnt look too bad!
Ill crack on with this and get crank seal in and clutch/dmf once off stand, get box back on and see if i can get it in the hole this weekend.
Thanks for reading!!
Small problem with the blue dci today!
Heard a twang when driving half way down the drive. Jacked up and passenger side spring has snapped half a coil from the bottom.
Original springs as far as i know at 162k so cant moan. Ordered a pair from local motorfactors so thats tomorrows job, also...
Updates
Had an hour spare here and there over the last couple of days, so got a bit more done
250 Inlet and fuel rail fitted
Dipstick tube needed a spacer to clear 197 cam sensor
Exhaust manifold and new gasket fitted, and oil feed/return pipes. Cam cover and top mount fitted and torqued...
Ehpas is the best approach as hpas feels great, i believe the cup racers used the same. I might follow suit if i can find a suitable location to fit a pump.
Prob easier to diagnose and fix it than wiring a switch up mate. Prob a relay fault, id do what @barnesautos suggested above, or if you have clip you can cycle the rad fan whilst testing.
Ive wired my epas ecu up as per oem so it sees rpm and vehicle speed. Works great without the rack sensor and adjusts steering feel with speed. Ive not even looked at the sensor on rack, as i i dont have it. Cant do too much, ive had the epas ecu up on diagnostics and it still registers the...
Ive had a few done by him and all good. He even rang me when i sent one over as it didnt need repair, and sent some wiring diagrams over for diagnostics. Top fella.
