Silicone will be fine, works better than exhaust paste. I had a slip joint on our megane milltek blow like f**k, used normal clear silicone and no blowing since. High temp not even necessary any general purpose clear will do. Dont use it pre lambda as it can knacker it.
Updates
Kangoo started misfiring from cold last week. Its done it intermittently for a while but just a couple of pops, but had developed into a 5-10 sec misfire and rough idle.
Changed plugs for bcr8es last week and comp tested it, still 160psi per cylinder so all seemed ok. Plugs did not...
Its April 2021, things are moving but its all slow. Weather is starting to pick up, ive got the Megane r26 Kangoo Compact running and road legal, the pressure is off slightly as shaking it down and finishing small jobs before its mapping date in May. Start chipping away at smaller jobs on the...
Used to be a major issue if you mixed synthetic and mineral in the early days but i believe its not too bad now, id never try it though.
My ocd says that in something decent id use same brand and grade exclusively, however if its drinking oil then anything is better than none at all for people...
I would change it myself as could have anything in.
Usually no issues mixing semi/fully synth together regardless of brand and grade though, only have issues mixing synthetic with mineral, but f**k all modern runs mineral so wouldnt be too concerned.
Update
Had to resurrect the old kangoo 172 cup for my mate the other day. Hes neglected the poor thing and its been sat on a drive not used for ages but partly due to the gearbox being a little bit poorly and ive not had time to change it for him.
At mot in January he had a carry on getting it...
Ive had a few stuck injectors giving a misfirey first start on the last couple of first startups after rebuild/long layup. Had to fire carb cleaner through some c20let injectors to get them going while giving the injector 12v to trigger recently, pikey injector clean
Fuel the fire.
So next thing i looked at was the fuel system. Steve had previously mounted the fuel reg on the end of the cam cover, but had decided to move it to another location next to the top engine mount.
Rail with gauge and bosch sensor fitted for fuel pressure.
Reg next to top engine...
I recently refitted the lower bumper tray under the intercooler on the Trophy. Made a fair difference to charge temps as before with the air escaping around the core it was 8-9deg above ambient temp, and now its 5deg above ambient.
Well worth refitting as much ducting as poss as air is lazy...
Updates
Give the orange dci a good clean up. Its been neglected a bit in the cleaning department recently, been used for tip runs and allsorts so was looking a bit sad.
Headlamps needed a polish as had went yellow, good 2 bucket wash, coat of oldskool collinite 476s wax, AG trim gel and...
So where were we.
I recall it was pissy wet March 2021. Interior is done so thats one job off the list. There's f**k loads to to do and im flirting around the engine. Start seeing what will bolt up and what will not.
Steve was planning on using Aem ign1a smart coils. They are a nice bit of kit...
I use a clio v6 remote reservoir on my Trophy. The bottle is an ATE one shared with bmw and angled plastic fittings that fit in the top of the master cylinder joined by rubber brake fluid resistant pipe. The ATE bottle is easily available and renault level sensor fits straight in, however if...
I have a couple that are modified for the task intended  i needed to take a fuel line fitting off at Efi last week and id forgotten my grinded special and Chris let me use a posh snap on set of low torque spanners for the job. Got me thinking an upgrade might be needed. Ive got a few sets...
Bang on cheers gents. They are one of those tools that you will rarely use, but come in handy for alloy fuel fittings with thin hex on the end. Saves grinding down a spanner😆
How hot is hot regarding coolant temps? What radiator are you running, later style with a handful of larger bars or the oem type with smaller but more bars? The oem style cool better @Adey. has just had similar issues and the oem style rad made a fair difference. Also the ducting to...
Can anybody recommend any low torque slimline spanner sets? I used a snap on one recently to undo a fuel fitting with slim hex nut, was great compared to my angle grinder thinned out spanner. Snap on set is about £400 so id like a cheapo half decent quality set.
Stick it in the garage, damp trap inside, trickle charger or battery negative off, and leave handbrake off..thats all ive done with several cars for years without too many dramas.
Maybe start up once every 3 month and take it for a shot round the block, get it fully warmed up..wouldnt recommend...
The pms linkage is to suit the shifter so would need to fit the full kit including the shifter as it wont fit stock shifter from memory.
Prob worn bushes on current setup @plees Does replacements iirc, also replace the white bush in the linkage at gearbox end.
The Flir camera was a mega bit of kit, thats the only part of my old job that i miss.
The fella who was teaching the course was also a petrolhead so i based some of my practical on the Trophy. He told me that he had done some thermal imaging for race teams on rear differentials when they were...
The brake res and starter were the main issues. However a single layer of nimbus heatshield has sorted both for road use.
Ive recently done training for Itc level 1 thermography and had 20k's worth of Flir camera available in my old job and it confirmed the nimbus works really well.
I think the ultimate heat shieliding for the manifold and downpipe would be thermomet but its so expensive. About 1k to get it fitted to the manifold iirc.
The manifold and downpipe are ceramic coated on this, done by camcoat a few years ago. Also has a titanium blanket on the turbo. Manifold still gets bloody hot to touch though and ive got a scar on my arm after reaching into the engine bay. Marked for life off this
I did have the...
