Right ive taken it to a local exhaust specialist and it turns out that it isnt the exhaust atall causing the problem, turns out the car is firing on 3 cylinders, it could possibly be Spark plugs, HT leads or a coil pack. Not good whatever it is!

How can i check if the HT leads are gubbed?

5 years or 72,000 miles whichever is soonest... Also if the car is nearly 10 years old it should be requiring (or had) the second timing belt done regardless of mileage. welcome btw
