Preaching to the converted as mentioned!!lol! Bought a lovely, standard and original (ish) 172 Phase 1 few weeks back, its since had man logic firmly applied to it and I love it!lol!
i tried to run my old 172 on normal BP 95 RON and it used to splutter and loose power all over the shop, on the Ultimate it was fine, so since then for the sake of 2 quid a tank or whatever it works out at, I've always run my F4R engines on some form of Super unleaded, be it Shell, BP, Tesco...
Great write up and truly lovely looking car, in some ways it's a shame you modded it at all. Even down to the bulbs. But if I did mention that it would be very much pots and kettles so I'll stay quiet :-)
nice work mate
when you say you use the X5 mop thing, does it come with a bunch of accessories to get to the harder to reach bits or you just using the shoot some steam at the fecker technique for areas like the boot shut etc?
engines require big money to gain anything tangeable really, best bet is just chuck a stainless exhaust on, decent panel filter in the airbox and RSTuner map it to get her running healthy and pretty much stock power (they always run lower than book tbh)
cooksport or eibach sportline springs are...
you've already covered it in the question, replace top mounts with ones in link below, and add a standard 172 front lower gearbox mount

and then get a polybush kit for the dogbone mount, or buy one from me, I have three in the shed...
had clios all my driving life, still do. 33 and run a 182 daily, 172 phase 1 on stock and 2x mk1 clio 16v as well
owned around 15 clio I reckon, mostly 16v or Williams and sports for the mk2's
think I have issues
cheers ears! great looking cars the phase 1's, i'd forgotten how much I like them tbh since the last one 5 odd years ago
had to be minidisc :) I've got loads of minidiscs and personal players, another hobby of mine! lol!
Right, cracked on today with a few jobs I wanted to do to the car.
First job was to remove the solid engine mounts, engine side, gearbox side and dogbone
in bits:
Dephaser looking pretty new
Standard mount going on
Didn't get any more pics at this point but back together again...
It's only few bolts whip dash off, I'd then drill couple of holes and bond some nuts to the underside. Then you can use some small bolts through the camera mount and remove when not in use. If you did that with self tappers the holes are going to pull through pretty quick after couple of refits
Morning all
I'm getting confused at to what stereo I should have in my later model phase 1 172 (Y plate)
My old X plate phase 1 had a tape deck but not a tuner list one, looked older and more in keeping with the phase 1 interior.
Can anyone shed any light on what should be fitted to what age...
