Thanks for the feedback been awhile since I’ve had a 172, just thought it might have a noisy water pump, it’s not coming out that clearly on the recording. I will give it a longer run 👍
Hi l, dropped another 172 engine into my project 172 cup which I purchased off here, which was needed as a replacement due to a blown head gasket.
I’ve put the car back together new oil, filter, radiator etc and bled the system and on starting I’ve noticed a noise I’m not sure what it is...
Thanks guys, got it done this afternoon worked a treat. Key was having belt on all positions and making sure all slack was out. Rotating pulley down was perfect. Clio a step closer to being on the road now 👍
Hi wondering if someone can save me from going insane, I have a 172 cup with air con pack which I’ve been rebuilding as a project. I’ve had issues with tensioner which I realised in the end was seized.
I have a genuine belt kit with tensioner that I can just not seem to get to fit! It’s a 1662...
The mk2 focus rs is a great car, I had mine for 1 year and as it was my daily did 20k miles overall. They are a great looking car, love the styling and the engine sound was glorious! I do miss the car it was beautiful but being front wheel drive ultimately drove me to sell it.... it has the...
Why are you using standard road pads? OEM pads aren’t designed for that sort of abuse the Mk3 focus is a heavy car, you should look at moving to a fast road or track pad which can cope with the temperatures. It’s completely up to you what you spend your money on but those tyres and discs didn’t...
I have an m factory diff in a rebuilt gearbox by puremotor sport, works really well on track. Nick did a good job of it and it’s been faultless. I’m actually breaking my track car with one installed in a few weeks but it’s a clio cup so speedo drive is different..... anyway well worth the...
not overly far mate. Doesn't seem to be an obvious kit available.... sets on eBay after questioning are single line to the rear and not setup for the 172 cup compensator. Braided lines are fine but if poorly fitted can fret really easily. I want to retain the front right and rear left etc...
Hi, need some advice please on the best setup for track regarding brake lines. Old 172 cup system has been take apart as subframes and calipers have been taken off my car. Is it best to leave the system as it is, rebuild and only replace the flexible parts or can somebody share their setup?
My learning so far for the Clio.
T1r's are awful, side walls are really soft lots of roll over causing bad edge wear, crap grip and noisy.
Michelin PS3 good performance in wet weather or low temp and on road. (Current wet setup)
Rsr great performance for price, best of my above in dry and...
Nice car mate, I picked mine up just before Christmas same colour as well. Definitely get yourself a steering wheel crook lock ( Mine was 70ish quid from Halfords) gives you peace of mind, I've also fitted a vanguard to protect obd very important!
Has anyone tracked theirs? Fancy doing a few...
I've ran them on my 172 cup for 3 trackdays and varying conditions. They are crap to be honest, make alot of noise and don't offer much grip. Soft sidewalls mean higher than expected pressure needed to stop them rolling over the edge and wearing the tyre heavily. They are fine for the road or...
I have been looking into an EP3 as suggested. Mike you hit the nail on the head, I think what I'm really looking for is K20 engine performance in a 172 cup chassis, i'm very on and off with the civic and when people say its souless and has vague steering that really turns me off them. The...
Power, turbo and lsd are what attracts me to the R26. I really like my 172 cup but i suppose the biggest dilemma is a 172 cup with increased hp, and lsd will end up near R26 money....
I get your point, in my head i'm willing to risk it yes, i've made the switch from motorbike trackdays so risk has been higher lol
Thanks smith that's really helpful.
Hi, i've been doing some research into buying one of the following cars for track use and the odd trip to work (i have a diesel daily).
Options i'm interested in are the R26, clio 197 and Fiesta ST (£5-£7k starting budget).
I don't want to strip it bare like my last 172 CUP although fun just...
Just wanted to see what you guys thought, both myself and my brother have clio 172s. Unfortunately his car has died... engine has lost compression and is junk so the car has been stripped and all the nice shiny bits will be transfered to my 172 cup so we can share it for trackdays, and the left...
That's fair enough reading your original post has got me thinking questioning my own ideas, civic cup looks very interesting with a good chassis and power output. I think the golf series would be expensive in that the mk5s are a cool car but not a cheap base line. I have some reservations with...
I'm looking to race my Clio next year, I sort of understand why your not keen on the Ktec 182 series. Form what I've seen there is tricolore throphy, tin tops, trackattacks hill climbs etc
Why do you think a Golf or Civic would be cheaper? I think from the list of mods above you would be...
Thanks fletcher, did you convert your seats to side mounts? Or are there spacers available for this kind of thing? I will be driving it on the road to and from tracks etc
Hello, I've just purchased some second hand OMP TRS bucket seats which have the fixing holes underneath for my Clio track car project. Was just wondering from people's experiences if I can mount straight to the OMP subframes or will this be to low? (I'm 6ft).
