Hi all,
The Forum tells me I havent been here since 6th Jan. Antisocial g*t, arent I?
Overworked, underpaid .....
Anyway, I have a couple of questions for the 172 owners.
When you pull your stalk (ooh err missus etc.etc) to flip between main and dip beam, does the stalk click? Mine...
If anyone is going to Rockingham, pop in and say hello. Us Legends Cars are one of the support acts - Ill be in the number 56 car (red/white).
Im not sure where the Legends paddock will be - probably in the Outer Paddock, right next to the car parks at the back of the Turn 1 grandstands...
MB - ever thought of taking it on a trackday? Get some decent instruction and you should find out what you and your car can do.
Incidentally, if you are treating the wheel gently you are doing the RIGHT THING. Being rough with the wheel, brakes or throttle will upset the car. It might feel...
I have a 172 and a CBR600. This is an oldish CBR (an FM). IMO there is no comparison.
The only time the 172 would be able to keep up would be on a series of left-right-left corners (because the bike cant change direction as quickly as the car) and maybe on a wet, bumpy road (because you end up...
Mine isnt used every day. If I leave it for a few days the rear pads stick on, as a few of you have experienced. According to the local dealer, Renault know about the problem but havent come up with a fix yet.
I stayed in Croydon for a couple of years. Accommodation quite reasonable, you can get to London Bridge in about 15 minutes on the right train (or about 25 on the wrong one). Victoria is about 20 mins too.
I think there were some 165hp 172s in Belgium - something to do with tax breaks.
JJ - just get your paperwork off to Renault UK and youll have your 3 year Pan-European warranty.
JJ- they are talking crap. The only difference is that you dont get breakdown insurance. If you write to Renault UK they will give you a 3 year warranty (details in several other posts).
If they mess you around report them to Renault UK, who seem to have their heads screwed on.
My local...
Years ago (i.e. when I was about 12) I was with my dad on a dual c/way (the one near Symonds Yat for the South Wales members). We were passed by a Comma minibus. Seconds later it turned right, then turned left and fired off the road, up a steep embankment. It came to a halt, then tipped over...
I was impressed with the Cooper S when I test drove it. VERY linear power, fantastic driving position, kart-like handling (though bumpy b-roads unsettled it a little).
What put me off? FAR too expensive.
RobFenn - the Mk1 V6 is NO fun to drive on a track IMO. You just cannot commit to a corner with any confidence because you just do not know what the back end is going to do. It feels like an old 911 on kanckered shock absorbers. I found I could brake much later and carry far more corner speed in...
Let me know how you get on. I have a very vague clutch in mine - Renault seem to think that it is normal. It can be made to slip, but behaves itself every time I take it to the Dealer.
It has settled down a little now I have a few miles (4.5k) on the clock but it still doesnt feel quite right.
RobFenn, Im not going to rise to the bait. This time.
Thought of loads more, but most of them relate to other people.
1. Seat Height Adjustment in a Lada. Mate of mine had an old sh*tbucket of a Lada Estate (basically an Eatern-bloc Fiat 126). He tried to kill it for 2 years and it wouldnt...
The balljoints were about £35 per side for my 1.4RT, but unless you are mechanically confident Id take it to a garage (it involves releasing and reattaching the anti-roll bar). A Renault garage will probably charge £100+ per side but an independent garage would undoubtedly be cheaper.
Ooh, remembered a much better one :).
Even more years ago I was spraying a bit of one of my motorbikes. The silver spraycan blocked up so I removed the nozzle from the top to clean it.
After cleaning it I put it back on - still no paint. Ah ha I thought, there must be a blockage further...
Years ago - removed the steering wheel from my Avenger. It sits on a spline, so it takes a bit of force to shift it. Sat in drivers seat, pulling wheel hard. When it came off it hit me right in the face, leaving an imprint for a couple of days.

Check the front oower balljoints. They wore very rapidly on my 1.4RT and caused some interesting handling quirks, including a tendency to wander, and to tuck its nose in suddenly when cornering.
Jack the corner up, then attempt to pull the bottom of the wheel in and out. If it moves it could...

Rob - in a road/track car your brake bias would be too far at the front to do it accurately, wouldnt it? If you start to push straight on, you have effectively lost grip at the front, so applying the brakes is going to put more load on the front and make it push even more.
