    182 Cup Springs on 172

The dampers are the only bit that doesn't bolt on, due to the spacing of the strut to hub bolts. 182 cup = 60mm, other sport = 54mm. Get the strut holes elongated by a machine shop and you're away. Rears are bolt on, arms are the same, hubs are different (wheel bearings & driveshafts) but that...

Does anyone know what these gearbox parts codes are please?

I have the same issue with the linkage on my 1.6 and have identified the 'filtration module' bush OD / selector rod hole ID tolerance as the issue - you can see the rotational movement when moving the linkage by hand under the car, even with the nut fully tight. I ordered the older parts in...

    Project S*** Box

So, had a little break from messing with this until I was forced to in January. The car had been losing water since I bought it, with no obvious source but only a little here and there but unfortunately, this got worse and worse until I had no choice but to do some investigation. A good look...

How do you tell mk.2 dCis apart?

I've seen a dCi 100 advertised and want to know if it's a genuine 100 or if the seller is just being a bit hopeful... I know on later Renaults, the service book sticker tells you the power but is there a way of telling MK.2 dCis apart? Checked the 172's service book and there's no build sticker...

    UCH Versions...

The boot is a really common problem - the 'cam' that operates the microswitch wears and doesn't actuate the microswitch far enough. You can disconnect it or superglue a slither of thin plastic on to the face (is used 2 layers of insulation tape) and it fixed it. That was 3 years ago.

    UCH Versions...

Sure thing. I used a heat gun an really carefully applied heat to the area until the chip slid off. Make sure it's all level and that you don't knock it! Otherwise, you're in the cack. Top tip - take several really good pictures of the board before you start, so you can rebuild it, if necessary...

    UCH Versions...

I would have to guess that the Engine and / or ABS ECU controls cruise, as it needs to regulate throttle angle with feedback from road speed. UCH does all the lights, wipers, locking etc. Security chip has 93C66 written on it, 8 legs, as stated above. Best of luck, hope it works for you.

    197/200 Gearboxes...

Cheers for the replies, although it does indeed seem like pot luck... Is there a company that rebuilds them stronger or a different box that can be used in place? I'd use the car for track days and doubt it would stay stock for long...

    Budget rallying. Ph1 172

Cut off the spring seats and weld them higher up or take spares off some old shocks and weld them to the shocks, with the OE seats as a guide. Should see 20mm or more.

    Project S*** Box

Back from holidays now, so I'll be cracking on with the final FARB and front wishbone swap and then sourcing a 182 rear beam. Quite interesting jumping in to the old girl after ahving a Renault Captur dCi for the week. Amazing how numb and hyper the Captur's steering was and how light the...

    197/200 Gearboxes...

Been considering a 197 or 200 of late but the gearboxes are causing me concern. Is there a fix for the weak 'box or is there a tried and tested replacement for them that solves the dairylea OE 6 speed? As far as I can tell, the rest of the car is a solid prospect but the dark cloud of a...

    Project S*** Box

So, having missed my 172 (but not too much, as the missus now has it :) ) I bought a black 1.6 16v Dynamique as a cheap runaround - I had been looking for a 1.2 or 1.4 but this one came up at a price I couldn't refuse, even with the extra tax and insurance plus it had working AC and all the auto...

    ARB Diameters 172 / 182 / Cup

To answer my own question. Non Sport 1.6 16v has a 25mm diameter FARB and ~19mm RARB in the rear beam. I believe that the 1.2 has a thinner FARB but have not got one to measure...

    ARB Diameters 172 / 182 / Cup

Ressurecting an old thread... Does anyone know the ARB diameters for non-sport cars? From the bushes that are available, the fronts are 23mm diameter but I'm looking at how the rears compare to the sport. Also, there appear to be 2 types of outer ARB bushes for the sport - 22mm and 23mm. Can...

    Understanding the UCH...

The driver's side runs off a separate circuit, so that'll explain why it works and the passenger side does not. Have you supplied 12v directly to the window mech to prove it works?

CV boot failed after 15k miles!

I had this replaced today by lemonnobby1, who works for Renault in Bristol and did the belts at the same time :) I hope he doesn't mind me saying that he inspected the driveshaft and boot and was of the opinion that the driveshaft was not an OE Renault item, as it had the wrong design at the...

CV boot failed after 15k miles!

As an update to this, I phoned Renault UK and they have offered to foot half the bill for a replacement CV boot, as a gesture of goodwill. So, if you have something similar, it may be worth giving them a bell...

Clio drivers window not working no power

As I stated above as well as saying that you can use a spare UCH to test the window function. You can swap the relay out for a working unit from another UCH, or just swap the coding chip over on a UCH of the same version, as I did 2 months ago and it works perfectly. If you're handy with a heat...

    Wonky Window

The power to the passenger side window is controlled by a relay on the UCH. IIRC, the switch is held live, unlike the one-touch passenger side but it's a few months ago that I was playing about with all this. If the driver's side passenger switch is working but not the passenger side switch...

Clio drivers window not working no power

Driver's side runs through the UCH (under the glovebox), so there are quite a few wires going to and from the switch. The UCH controls one-touch, hence why it's done that way. The UCH has the relay on it that provides power to the window regulator, so it's not really user serviceable, as the...

Think I need a new driveshaft...

Got the driveshafts through and they combined postage, so it was <£70 for both. I swapped out the driver's side shaft this weekend and the problem has gone. When I was taking the old one out, the bracket that holds the bearing to the gearbox was fairly loose and held on by 1.5 bolts rather than...

CV boot failed after 15k miles!

Ta, I'll get one on order... Bit annoying if Renault have supplied a shaft with a non-OEM boot on it and would explain why it's knackered. Yes, I exchanged my old driveshaft, so it must have been a reconditioned item. Failing after just over a year is a joke; you must have been properly...

CV boot failed after 15k miles!

I had no idea how long it had been split and letting dirt in, so I decided to take the plunge and do the job once, rather than have it fail due to dirt ingress a short time later. But it is new enough that it should still be in good working order; which it's not. Invoice doesn't state that...

CV boot failed after 15k miles!

Bought a complete driveshaft from Renault 2 years ago, at a cost of £150, to replace the N/S driveshaft after discovering that the outer CV boot has split and sprayed the wheel with grease... It's covered about 15k of normal driving since then and I had thought all was fine, what with me...

Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

Just taken a peek at this thread for the first time in a while... looks like the culprit has been found! 5 pages since I left it alone. Will check my 272 and see what I've got on there. With the 172 cup/182 cup suspension on there, this should finish it off nicely if there's more to be had.
