Actually, I could probably make this much easier...
Do I need to do any pressing or renewing of bearings if I want to change the gaiter?
Is there anything else tricky about it (apart from trying to undo rusted bolts on a freezing day!)?
Would it just be eaiser to renew the whole shaft...
planning on spending tomorrow doing this...
the haynes manual says something about having to press a new bearing into the shaft when fitting a new gaiter. Sounds like something I wont be able to do without a press (agree / disagree??!!) - I thought / hoped that you would simply be able to get...
it is my n/s shaft that is leaking from the box - i was just asking whether this is the r/h side you talked about with a replacable seal?
If so, is the seal renewable without dismantling the box?
Thanks

just to bring this back up...which side is right and which left? is it as you look at the car bonnet from the front, or as if you were sitting in the driving seat facing forward?
a friend of mine has recently had an M20 alarm system installed, but the engineer didnt ask him about setting any of the options when setting it up, and refused to give him the codes to do it himself when he rang up - he wants a call-out charge to come and tweak it, which is ridiculous...
My battery is almost flat, to the point now where it hardly has enough juice to crank the starter motor! How do I tell whether it is just an old battery not holding the charge or it is the alternator not charging the battery?
just dont do that i did repairing a leaking sealing ring on the downpipe - manifold joint and let the reamains fall into the downpipe - had to remove the whole fecking thing without a ramp, not nice
The day before I really need it for a long haul to Bristol, she goes and stops playing CDs :(. am so desperate i have had it out and have had some careful logical disassembly to see exactly whats wrong...

yes depressurise! i use allen keys to stick in the end when they come out, there is no was of avoiding some spillage though, but you can use the protective rubber caps on new filters to plug each end of the filter as you undo it to prevent extra leakage. oh and you can buy a pipe clamp from any...
yeah i did a similar thing, was trying to look for the right turning at this crazy london junction and didnt see it was red. stupid indeed, but im praying ive been fortunate!
pretty srue i got flashed by one last night in camberwell somewhere - do they give you points or just a fine if they come through? praying no points, cant even afford insurance as it is at themoment, paying for tw*ts who drive round uninsured and untaxed unlicenced etc...
look and see if you have an ECU - do you have a haynes manual? think the ECU is under one of the scuttle panels.
also look to see if its a carb under the airbox, gives it away with all the screws.
btw carb = not injected (in case)
the clio is setup as standard to have a higher rear than front, so by altering that, yes you will suffer a loss in handling.
Having said that, loads of people do it, and unless you drive your car hard as it is now, you wont probably feel much difference like that!
fair play mate but i have to say that i have owned 3 cars now, and each i have not done hardly anything besides basically strip and rebuild them to learn about mechanics - i am not going to shell out non-returnable money on a car that at the end of the day is not going to stand out.
I am...
