I repaired it tonight, relubed the boot and glued the rubber where it had split, more to test it than anything... drove it again and it was massively better, however still an issue at high speed.
Does anyone know where I can buy a CV Joint for the 172?
Hi All,
My 172 has developed an unnerving trait where it vibrates when you accelerate, its definitely not speed specific but happens when i floor it, the wheel wobbles but i can also feel it through the seat.
Any ideas what this could be, im going to get it up on a jack and have a look asap...
Hi,
I remember a while ago I had an issue with ABS and I was able to find a diagram showing the ABS plug on the clio where you could check the resistance to see if a sensor has failed.
Does anyone know where this diagram is?
Cheers
James
Im bumping this thread as I think its the same problem as me, just put new hubs on with new ball joints, not long replaced inner track rods and checked for play in outers.
Its a sort of loose feeling when the steering is centred... strange as the car accelerates in a straight line, I do...
As title really,
Which cars share the same alternator as a non cup 172?
In desperate need of an alternator today but the scrap yard don't have any 172s that I can to until monday
Cheers
James
was it the same symptoms? on idle electrics worked but when revved they cut out?
I think the little cable is the battery sensor or something, that makes the regulator work, I wanted to ensure that wherever this cable goes there is continuity
I have tried a different battery and it does the same, there is continuity between the chassis and the -tive terminal, is it still worth earthing the engine?
Is there any way to test if a battery is good?
Right, dont bother reading the first part of this thread, read from now lol:
The little plug on the alternator with 1 thin cable, Im assuming this is the battery sense cable? I checked for continuity between this and the battery and found none... can anyone shed any light on this? does this...
Right just put a multimeter on the battery while the car was running, im getting around 17volts, thats way to high am I right, I think for some reason im cooking the battery...
Just a thought, before all this sometimes when I would put the fans on they would take a little while before they started blowing, this time would vary - is this normal? (I had assumed it waited until the coolant was at the correct temperature before turning on the fans)
Thanks
James
Thanks Laura, I was going to take it for a decent drive but the indicators dont work when its revved above idle and also the windows or fans don't work so in todays weather Ill cook!
Have checked the fuses, they are fine. If i sit in the car with engine running on idle I can see the battery...
Just put new hubs on the clio after it being sat up for a week, I went to start it and it was completely dead, not even a flicker on the dash... jump started her.
Now I tried jumping it by connecting the -tive to the cars inlet, would this have caused problems? it didnt get the car to fully...
i personally don't know, if Id done it through the books I would be right in the office giving them hell but seeing as he did it for a favor there isn't much I can do...
Any idea how much Ill be looking at for a new hub? cheers
