this might be fixed.... swapped the 2nd hand throttle body for the original one and put it all back together.
Idle's nicely at 750-800rpm, doesn't stall, will do it in traffic, fuel economy seems to return.
My honest opinion ICV failure. :) Fingers crossed its fixed.
Ok so just been for a run. She started revving at 1800rpm, Pulled ICSV hose off the inlet elbow, shoved my thumb in the end of the hose and the revs dropped fine and she idled properly.
Faulty ICV?
karl, Would you say you had identical problems? Over revving is probably the most annoying thing (like 2000rpm in traffic) but the fuel consumption and the revs bouncing up and down willy nilly....
if I can diagnose it down to an ICV I'll just buy another one... LOL
Ok so full list of issues..
1. Air Con makes a weird wooshy noise when you switch it on and its not cold at all.
2. Fuel consumption is dreadful, truly dreadful
3. If driving along, say 40-50mph if you put the clutch down the car will rev on its own from 1,000 to 2,000 revs.
Very puzzling.
For all those still following this problem... example of problem.

As I've told Russ in a PM... Out of shot in the video I turn on the heated rear window and AC which you'll see are off in one shot and on in the next.... (!) as...
I'll upload a photo at the weekend if we're still revving. Ang said the idle has stopped being eratic and is now glued at like 2,000rpm so going to try what you recommended on the ICV but other than that going to strip it all down and check it on Saturday after qualifying at Monaco. :)
Thank...
Does anyone know what some of these parts look like? Any clues appreciated? Or if you can post an annotated engine pic it would be superb!
Andrew, you mentioned "MAP sensor and TPS as well as injector bosses, gaskets and egg shaped oil seal, so plenty of places to check" - could you point some...
Well, as Russ has foudn out in a my PM to him we haven't been able to cure this despite a new IACV from him as well as a replacement Throttle Body from Renault Specialist breakers.
However, we've found that if the revs start to climb putting the engine under some load, i.e. putting the fans...
Hello All (blast from the past!)
As I'm sure Ang has posted, we've acquired a Sunflower Yellow Ph1 172 a few months back. Its a great little car, love it to bits.
However, recently we (ok, so I) gave it a decent service and clean all the gunk out of the throttle body. It needed one and it...
;) now now Slammed172 ;)
Shweppy makes a valid point. 40k + they're going to be like 3 years old too. £250 is cheap but just bear in mind the rebuild and age.
LOL that cup will keep re-surfacing, yeah I think it was one of the very first with white rims - that car was such good fun!
Thanks Chris - yeah it owes me far more but I've got to be realistic. My last Civic Type R sold on PH quite quickly so I'm sure this one won't be around long. Just...
Public Transport! LOL.
Hey Ali, Yeah not been around much, been so busy at work and then BANG this hits me. I'd been hoping to get something german and rear wheel drive but as my leg is fucked and its going to be so long before its better I'm probably going to be off for a bit. :(

With much reluctance. :dapprove:
Loving home required - apply within! Cracking motor but that all went out the window on christmas eve as I managed to dislocate my left knee, partially severing my quad and tearing tendons left, right and centre...
I know Rich, I've been in two minds but as Ang said, it makes life a bit easier as hers has been off the road twice in the past few months - be nice to have a supply of spares to hand.
@Gaz - good work, you won't find it a common occurrence ;-)
s**t really? It was a CAT C or D and a right mess the last time I saw it in the scrap yard. Deathtrap! Nevermind, moving on from that now!
182 certainly looks like the way to go. LOL @ rattles - I think all the cars I've owned have rattled at some point!
Hi Dash - see you're back to your old username! LOL @ fastest car in the world. :-)
I'm not sure if a trophy is worth the extra over a 182 in the application I want (please read that carefullly!) but i'm open to ideas.
Dash - you're right on the cost front, I've seen 182's at silly money so...
Its been a long time but I've decided to make a return to Clio ownership. Is this the right time/choice?!
My previous Clio experience ended prematurely in April 2004 but after going to a bike engined Kit Car, to a Civic Type R (EP3) and now to a JDM Integra DC2 I've decided that I would like...
