A very good point. Although in my case I'll have to swap the Clio for something more family-friendly within six months. Was so tempted to try and persuade my other half that the best solution to our problem was a WRX PPP estate.
My local garage was competitive with Black Circles etc. for PS3s so booked in for a full set of those. Slightly scary to think that at £100ish a corner they will be almost a quarter of the value of the car!
Facing a similar dilemma at the moment.
I'm debating whether to go the whole hog and fit winter tyres - we don't tend to get a huge amount of snow around here, but my 172 Cup is our main car and my wife is having a baby in the middle of January!
Michelins or Goodyears seem to be the way...
Hi all,
My Clio Cup has clearly been on the track in the past and it currently some DIY brake ducts in place of the fog lamps, but I'd like to put it back to standard. Can anyone explain in idiot-proof terms how I do this?
The car came with what appeared to be the original fog lamp units in a...
Hi,
I've got a PAS leak on my 172 Cup. I tried topping the fluid up this morning (which appears to have temporarily cured the problem) but I couldn't make out the liquid level on the reservoir at all. Are they actually supposed to be see-through so you can see the fluid level from outside...
My 172 Cup understeers really badly at the moment. I had a basic tracking adjustment done by a local garage, and if anything that made matters worse. The front tyres are fairly worn, but not to anything like the extent I would image you'd need to generate that much understeer. So, before I shell...
My local garage - which is normally quite good value - quoted me £19 apiece to get the tyres fitted. That means that Black Circles works out at almost exactly the same as Tyre Universe (which is £20 a corner cheaper but doesn't include fitting).
ETA Thanks to the mods for moving this to the...
Sorry, I meant delivery only as in you have to organise fitting separately? I've bought tyres from Black Circles and E-Tyres before, but I've always gone for the inclusive fitting so I don't honestly know how much it costs.
Sport Contact 3s at £64 too.
I presume that's delivery only, though? Never actually bought tyres without fitting before - looks like around £10 a wheel is the going rate for fitting and balancing? So £84 for PS3s or £74 for SC3s in real terms.
ETA Anyone tried both the Sport Contact 3s and...
I'm pretty sure it's on Contis at the moment. They went through the MOT without so much as an advisory, but the fronts are looking a bit worn and the car understeers quite dramatically at the moment. I had the tracking adjusted and that hasn't solved issues, pressures are correct too, so I'm...
Are there any particular tyres people would recommend for daily use on a 172 Cup? I'm looking for some decent all-weather road tyres rather than anything too track-biased.
It's running 195 45 R16s with I plan to stick with unless there's any compelling reason to change. Prices were a bit of a...
I had a good chat with the guy at Greenlight (not Neil who posted above but one of his colleagues). Quote was reasonably competitive and they were good to deal with, but still some way off Tesco. He basically said they tend to come into their own with modified cars or low mileage second car...
Alas, Tesco it is!
Only just, though. My previous quote was valid, but I phone up to point out I'd actually held my driver's licence a year longer than originally stated and the price went up by £50! Apparently it was nothing to do with the changing circumstances, but it just fluctuates from...
Cheers gents.
Will give Greenlight (and others) a call tomorrow.
Debating whether to just lay the Clio up for a few weeks until I've sold my current car and I can transfer the NCB. Don't really want to do that with my new toy, though.
Can anyone recommend a good company to speak to for insurance quotes for a 172?
Ive tried Adrian Flux and another one of the specialist brokers but they both came back quite expensive. Ironically, Tesco via Compare The Meerkat is actually the best one I've had so far.
The car is a daily driver...
Fingers crossed. It would be a nice simple fix if so.
I do mean to find a good local specialist (Harlow's no great distance, so maybe Mark Fish is the best bet) but first off I'm going to drop it in at the local garage. Just wondered if there was anything I should point them to beyond the...
Having a bit of a play around this morning. Looks like it pulls one way under braking and another way under acceleration. Could that still just be tracking or does it mean something is moving?
Nope, private seller in Peterborough. Suspect he's wringing his hands with delight now at the fact someone was foolish enough to give him upwards of two grand for it. It was originally advertised for £2,995! Still, it seems to be a tidy example in other respects, belts done last year and it's...
Not out the question as it happens ... I grew up in the Westcountry so quite often find myself heading down that way.
Is the clutch a specialist job? Got a good local garage that I'd trust to do general work.
Weirdly the clutch on this one actually seems to be noticeably lighter than the other fast Clios I've driven, it's just very difficult to modulate. Obviously the last thing I want to do is spend £800 replacing it and then discover it's a 'they all do that' issue.
Don't suppose anyone knows a...
As far as I'm aware it wasn't on eBay. It was advertised on Pistonheads a few months back, but the guy took it off the market while he was sorting out his new car (a Clio 200) and I'd kept in touch with him from then.
I've driven quite a few cars with paddle clutches and that's exactly what it...
I picked up my new toy at the weekend. It's a nice gleaming Clio 172 Cup:
In general it's in pretty good nic, but there are a few issues. The clutch seemed a bit abrupt on the test drive, but (perhaps stupidly) I put that down to nerves. I'm now not so sure. It's lighter than I remember from...
Well, I bought it ... for £2,250.
Wasn't a fan of the re-trimmed steering wheel so he's agreed to swap it back to the original (in decent condition). The tyres aren't in their first flush of youth either, but everything else feels suitably fresh and it goes well. Ultimately I think I paid about...
