So yesterday I had a look at the ht leads and one of the 4 was very rusty compared to the other 3, probably meaning water gets in there, anyway I gave it a clean with some brake cleaner and it has been fine since, could this have solved the issue? Would rust be the culprit ?

So I did an experiment this morning, got on the A1 reset trip, drove at 65 ish for about 15 minutes and got an mpg of 46 average. Reset the trip for way back and was at around 52 until town traffic at which point it dropped to around 46 again. So maybe the car just isn't great at short...
