Hi mate, my 200 does the same, not only when its cold either. From what I can gather, it's something to do with having too much throttle response in the lower gears/rev range. Supposedly some Renault dealers can map this out, but it's been known not to make much difference!

Yeah I'm almost certain the bootlid and spoiler was from a Bugeye STi! But if I'm honest, I dont see much difference at all! Ha

this crossed my mind.. What if the belt had came off 5minutes before it engine cut out? Was that it eventually running out of juice? although i think i'm clutching at straws here, it was a pretty abrupt loss of power (dont remember any banging or knocking) but my window was open so could harldy...

I didn't want to try and start it incase i done anymore damage, but a mechanic told me over the phone to try it anyway, so when i turned the key, it just sounded like the starter motor was turning, but nothing else was happening :(

Not sure on the life expectancy, probably determined by previous owners driving style etc etc.. But i'd say at 50k they might be due for renewal? Mines is a 54reg and had 68/69k and were badly needing done! i got my set off ebay for less than £90 new, but as you say, would be annoyed if it made...

In my experience, my rear shocks were gubbed, which caused mine to feel terrible when cornering. Felt like the back of the car skipped round corners, and i was constantly correcting it. But mine were visably leaking, so that was the first thing i changed. Been fonr ever since.
