Like the guy above said, don't skimp on the material. Cheap stuff means poor results. Spend the cash and get some high end material - anything for myself I always use something like 3M 1080 series - easy to apply, looks great, ages well and is adequately removable once you decide to take it off...
A picture of the failing wrap would be a real help here, maybe then I could tell you the problem for sure. But to me it sounds like a mix of cheaper vinyl and incorrect application. Nothing wrong with cheap vinyl of course, it just had to be applied with a little more care to make sure it sticks...
Unlucky! Keep going and see what it end up like, you've got the vinyl so why not just give it a bash? If all else fails at least you can just take it off and try something else.
I decided to wrap my fog lights yesterday, I printed a yellow to red gradient onto clear vinyl and applied it, this...
Bonnet looks good man, check out some youtube videos for some tips on how to apply. Generally speaking start from your chosen starting point, apply firm even pressure with even strokes and heat when needed. Remember to post heat to bake the adhesive on the edges and corners.
It's been a while...
You can either apply wet or dry, try both ways and see what suits your needs best. When the vinyl is wet you can slide it around and position a little easier, but when it's dry you're relying on the air release channels to let any air bubbles out easily. It's really good stuff, maybe try the...
I'd use a heat gun and when you pull the vinyl, pull WITH the vinyl, not back against itself. Would be a pain though as that vinyl looks awful to work with!
Wallpaper steamer will heat patches and make the glue give up so in theory it would come off in nice wet chunks.
Good luck with it
I must have one of them faces, I cannot count how many times I have been stopped, questioned, pulled over, followed and cars searched in the last 5 years.
The most recent time I had any dealings with the police was a bit surreal but fair enough I suppose. I must have looked extremely dodgy...
I recommend it, I dipped some wheels on my Astra about 2 years ago, matte black, they looked brilliant. They wore very nicely and stayed on throughout winter no problems. I only peeled them off because I was eager to see how easy the stuff comes off...nightmare. In some places where I hadn't...
Diagro, you're going down the wrong route I'm afraid! 'Discount' wrapping material is a false economy and in my opinion an absolute waste of your hard earned cash if you want a good looking and durable vehicle wrap. I wouldn't trust a website called Discountcarvinyls either! Just implies they...
Cs buys a vee, let's get the ball rolling!
We could make it look pretty, take it to all the shows, parade it round. It'll be too expensive to sort the engine, so lets just make it a rolling shell and push it about. Just need someone to put it to bed every night
How about a few of us here pool together, buy the car, and make it a community project to restore it to its former glory! Or am I pushing the hippy vibes a bit too much right now...
The matt grey one does look poorly done in a couple of areas. Not to worry though, just pull it right off! Knuckles beware, vinyl can pull off bad lacquer too. Seen it happen and it isn't a pretty sight.
A tip with the Plasti Dip - the more coats the better. If you were to put it on too thin it...
Front wing to door is always a little sketchy, I try not to notice when I'm cleaning it on a sunny Saturday morning. Just don't look at the paintwork for too long, that's the best way to deal with it
Sorry mate but that's £230 I would have kept safe in the bank. Sometimes quality and price don't match up! Everyone's got their own taste and I like to think mine is more subtle than screaming.
I think this has to be my favourite colour. Hardly see them even on the forum, the way the sun's hitting them panels in the last photo? Niiiiice. Would look good on my driveway... any chance you'll take an Iceburg cup and cash your way? :P
I'm not a fan of carbon interior, but I agree that it looks far better than carbon wrapping vinyl! The finish looks really good on them bits. Now I better decide what i want dipping..
Just looked through their website, they actually look like a pretty decent firm! I don't say that very often - you should see the competition round my way...
My advice - get in touch with them, tell them what you want and see if they're able to help for a decent sounding price!
There's some useful videos on youtube which pretty much say what Barker said. I heard somewhere that the mk2 rear window (the boot) is one of the hardest windows to tint on the British roads and if you go for window tinting training then instructors sometimes use these as examples to practice...

My biggest wildlife altercation was hitting a muntjac at what must have been about 25-30mph under heavy braking in my old Peugeot 309. The thing was a tank - the only damage was a cracked number plate but the poor animal came off pretty bad. I've also hit a pheasant and yes, it did far more...
Something similar happened to a guy at work the other morning - got driven into the back of on the way to work. By lunchtime we were in the car park with a block of wood and a sledgehammer - looked good as new once we'd finished with it!
You can't wrap over rust, it'll be extremely obvious if there's any imperfections under the vinyl since it's so thin. If you wrap over lacquer peel you can plainly see it. So you'll be able to see if there's any problems with the body work. Like someone said it could have a different coloured...
