£1200 Service on the way

  U/R 200
Got the trophy booked in for its 5 year Service belts etc.

got the MOT free. and courtesy car of course.

Will be selling afterwards, want a new car again.:)

I've done exactly this on a trophy this week, plus a downpipe gasket. I wish it was £1200, I'd take a few days off.

just had a look and including gasket and coolant change it's under £700

basically unless it's a v6 you're having serviced, it shouldn't be any more than £600 period. Dealers will bum rape you! Travel to a specialist.

Sounds high.

On the other hand i really will be shelling out that on my car, just done 4 tyres for £550, full service and MOT plus a couple of bodywork bits due in November, it all adds up.

a PROPER 5year service is below, including the stuff people never bother with - ie brake fluid

(approx figures)

belt change - £450
service - £100
plugs - £50
box oil - £50
brake fulid - £50
coolant - £50
dephaser - £166

total - £916

On the above (for me):

Belt change: Fine
Service: (Do myself)
Plugs: (Do myself)
Box oil: Fine
Brake Fluid: Fine
Coolant: £50? Bit steep no? ;)
Dephaser: I've heard such mixed reviews on this, help!

go and buy 7L of renault type D coolant and than add the labour to do it, i think you'll find £50 is cheap ;)

Fare one. But I'd bet they weren't including all that. Every Renault I called about my 36k service didn't even know the belts needed doing :S

I don't wish to argue with Fred but,
Gearbox oil and dephaser arenot on the service schedule?
Brake fluid is a 4 year thing? As is coolant I think.

And plugs are not due till 72k, age irrelevant.

I think it's more that you see sooooooo many dephasers go that it's just sensible. Everytime I'm over there one seems to be playing up.

I agree they should be done, but there not part of the service schedule, mine wasn't done but car had only done 36k

i'm making a point ;)

£1200 at a delaer gets you "x"

£300 less at a specialist gets you all of that

brake fluid is a 2year thing, but no one EVER bothers
the boxes are made of cheese, so why not help it out a bit?
plugs i recommend 3year/36K

Maybe I've only just noticed it, but I'm sure nobody user to mention the dephaser pully last year or ever before that.

It seems the last few months it's the latest thing that people go on about.

I was thinking that the other day actually! Rewind to a year ago, nobody EVER mentioned getting the dephaser changed.

Type D coolant cost me £13/5 litres in Jan. Fred said they charged me wrong though. Still I needed more so went back the next day and again it was only £13! Not worth not using genuine at that price.

Dephaser wasnt mentioned because people used to change the oil

now nobody seems bothered to do it

possibly recession etc lol

Latest fad. couple of people have one break and do some scare mongering. Bit like water pumps a couple of years ago. I think i've only ever had to change 4 and that's from over 200 cambelt changes, and they were all rattling like crazy before i saw the car. Never had one develop a fault after a cambelt change yet.

oh and sparkplugs are always mullered by 36k, so the renault timescale on them is very wrong
