£205 tax for 172 - why!

  e60 M5 -172- dciheid
just renewed tax and after reviewing the state of the M8 with pot hole city everywhere i wonder why we as the motoring public waste so much cash on road tax as the roads are a disgrace!!

This makes even less sense....my friends Esprit V8 350 costs £190 to tax for 12 months.

Why does my 2.0 cost £205??!

Have to agree. The roads round here are dire.
Their idea of resurfacing is throwing all that sodding loose sh*t over the road, sweeping it into the holes and then letting every other inconsiderate tosser fling it at your car at 50 mph!!

Yep I pay the same amount as my father and he drives a Discovery 3.
The Aygo is starting to seem more appealing.... and I just only bought this one.

Hehe, I'm picking up my new car on friday which is on an 03 plate, so no cheap tax for me any more!

have the tax bands changed then, as mine was only £180 for a year 4 months ago ?

it was £195 for me last year so looks like up a £10er in the year

for feck all.

the whole thing is a joke, plus to make it worse they are redoing 5 weeks of resurfacing on the M8 again as they made an arse of, inevitably it will be paid for by the road tax - magic.

there was a review of potholes on the news like 6 months ago, fixin the potholes in scotland would take like 14 years, its shocking

Arnt the council not meant to fix some of these with our ripoff council tax aswell. Roads my way are sh_t also:( . As for that loose stuff it aint great for your tyres either!. Cheap for them and passing the expense to us, TW_TS:mad:

I just swapped to a 2002 golf 1.9 tdi & thats £115 a year to tax!.. nice
Although my 1997 pug 1.9 diesel is £200 (ish)a year to tax.
If registered Before March 2001, tax was worked out on engine size & after/now it's done on emmisions. (so i thought) so if buying an older car go for a small engine, if a newer one get a diesel :)
good for some, not for others!

Yep....really f**ks me off as well paying over £200 for my 172 when it's a pretty economical car.

Surely there are lot of bangers on the roads causing far more damage to the environment but are being taxed less.

how much would a year cost at this £400 bracket if you bought 2 lots of 6 months then?... £450? 500?... christ

totall agree Chic, the roads here are a disgrace. Have taken the Civic into work the last couple of days and the amount of pot holes I've tried to avoid is shocking.
