1.2 16v 02 to 172 conversion PAS probelsm

  F4r'd Clio 1.2 16V
hello

i recently converted my 1.2 16v ( 2002 ) to a 172 ( 2002 ), the problem being is the mot garage wont pass my car without no power steering which i dont even want but thats another story! i was just wondering if there is a way to get around the 172 rack option seeing as the power steering on the 1.2 was electric? i called ktec up and asked what they do and they said they change the abs ring? i might just be a dinny but how would changing the abs ring give me power steering?

if i take the positive from the pas motor to a known feed and then earth the connection out the steering goes fully to the right and there is so much resistance that you cant move it at all left?

any help/advice would be appreciated

1.2 16v uses 22tooth ABS, 172 uses 44tooth, by chaging it the car "should see wheel speed again therefore the electic pas might start working

why won't the MOT pass it though, mine doesn't have it and passes fine (legit MOT, not a hooky one!)

i see so i do need a 44 tooth abs ring then? and i'm sorry but i cannot answer that question on the mot fail slip they give you it says "power steering inoperative" i did try and appeal the case and he said "because the car is supposed to have it, it should be working"

thanks for the help though! will get back to you :)

but if you remove it completely it cannot be tested therefore its a pass, complain, get them to call VOSA

that was exactly my point i did say that and he just stood his ground on the "the car is supposed to have it" i think he just didnt like me to be honest.... what about the abs? do car's HAVE to have abs? i didnt think they did but this guy seemed to think so haha! the funny thing was i knew i had an oil leak from my sump plug and he didnt pick up on it and one of my tyres were close to the limit once again he didnt pick up on it. was quite frustrating as you can imagine!
