1.2 16v cam belt

  Van

the car is a 52 plate clio.

what are they like to do?

thanks and happy new year.

:D

i done mine and found it well lets say i walked away 3 times cause it was a pain in the ass.

no floating crank, its keyed. easy to do, just mark it up or you lock lock it with mot tool 1054, not really needed.

really pretty easy, seen the tensioner done wrong dozens of times though. Worth doing the waterpump unless it's very low miles, and check behind the drive pulley on the pump for signs of previous leaks, which normally leave a yellowy brown scale

hi, thanks for replies.

cunny funt, im not giving it to a garage, im a fully qualified, time served mechanic. and im doing it as a side job.

alibailey, i dont understand, im an MOT tester myself, and ive never heard of MOT tool 1054.

sideways danny, thanks for info, its not low miles, its on 100k and im giving it a service and belt kit.

LOL MOT tool has nothing to do with an actual MOT mate, all renault tools are named MOT**** (insert number)

waterpump is a MUST do item when doing a belt on them

wooops. now i feel stupid. d'oh!.

ill deffo change the water pump then.

danny, this tensioner, is it not just a excentric tensioner that tensions anti clockwise?

ive done loads of belts and heads on the 8v they are a doddle.

lol at mot tool, love you Neil!

tensioner works anti clockwise iirc, if you do it clock wise tensioner will wheel will get jammed on the cam cover causing the belt to rub over the tensioner instead of roll, snapped belt within a few mins. Ive heard of people doing it.

hahaha lol. one more unrelated question - why do clios eat rear wheel bearings? and why are the drums always siezed on?
