1.2 16v :D

Righty...as i've been looking for a new car i've decided that insurance will kill me no matter what engine i go for as i've just turned 18 and have a traffic offence = 3 points . SO!!!

Suggestions on making it quicker would be helpful along with prices...engine conversions, nos, turbo? i dont care lol just fire away! MUST HAVE A PRICE AND NOT BE A MADE UP MOD e.g/ V12 Engine Conversion

both done on mine and made it much more fun to drive. you could go for a conversion but its just not worth it when you consider the price of 172's and the insurance implications.

in all honestly i wouldn't bother touching the engine, been there, done that, waste of time

K-tec were developing a LPT conversion for this engine for about 2.5k

LPT = light pressure turbo. Theres prob plenty of bits you can get for the engine such as cams but then you have to think is it really worth it etc

any mods that are going to generate real power are going to be expensive and therefore pointless. declaring the mods will also increase your premiums.

your really best off sticking with the 1.2 until you can afford a faster car, or get a decat made on the cheap.

What about just getting a 1.6 16v if your not after a 172 etc atm?? Whats the engine model for the 1.2 16v engine??

Dunno about price - £5 - 7k at a guess?? and wouldnt recommend putting to much power into it as read someone turbo'd their 1.6 16v to over 200bho but kept blowing up. For that prive you may aswell get a 172 and your nearly there. For cams think they may have some on cat cams - www.catcams.be

i spoke to ktech about turboing my k4m... i think it's a bad idea..

they were saying 4-5k for the lot done. (uprated crank, low compression conrods/pistons, custom manifold to power the turbo, blah blah blah) they said they would estimate 180-190 bhp.. bau as said above you would lose the reliability.

172 yer clio, j3ned or whatever his name is will sell u the lot for 2k or summin.

Be good until you crash... I would suggest if you dont want to pay loads for insurance and if your after a newer shape Clio to get either a 1.4 16v or 1.6 16v then - at least you would have some reasonable power to start with. If you want to go mad with cams, turbos etc then its down to the individual. Im doing stuff to my 1.2 8v engine but thats mainly down to intrest lol If I wanted a bigger powered car I would just go out and buy one tho

i can insure a 1.6 16v for £200 more than my 1.2 16v @ 17yr old, worth a thought (that online quote could have been wrong but i doble checked everything and re done the quote!

£1,050 for the 1.2
£1,250 for the 1.6

30bhp more and a load more torque! also worth saying mine was a basic expression model with steelys in that quote and the 1.6 was a dynamique
