Your gonna be opening a major can of worms trying to do a conversion like that. The colling and oil channels will almost certainly not line up, and as for getting it timed etc, its going to be a major head ache. The 1.2 8v is not really an engine that can be tuned TBH, if your seriously after more power then an engine conversion is the way forward. Otherwise you could just hang onto the 1.2 for a couple of years or so and then move onto a different car with a bigger engine.
The later 1149cc "DIET" 8-valve 1.2 engine spawned the later 16-valve version. But Im afraid I dont know how different the 16-valve unit is.
The head of the 1171cc 1.2 (Energy) engine - as found in the Phase1 & 2 Mk1 Clio - is certainly not interchangeable with either the 8 or 16-valve 1149cc head.
hi everyone new to the forum - just after a bit of advice....... i know its an old post but it is my question
is Steveold right??? be great if he was......
basically my stepdaughter has a lovely W reg mk2 p1 1.2 8v clio everything is great other than someone ran into the back of it and kinked it all down the side
but they paid up rather than going through the insurance so basically she has a perfect running car MOT-able but would never be worth the bodywork to bring it back up to scratch
anyway......... a neighbour was "scrapping" a 03 plate mk2 p2 1.2 16v clio with a knackered crank - so i bought it with the intention of swapping the 1.2 8v engine complete into the 1.2 16v car but after searching about i wondered if i could swap the heads (ie put the 8v block into the 16v car) making it a much easier neater job
