Reserviour inside a reserviour?

The brake fluid & fluid level sensor are inside a roughly 30mm "pot," but what's the purpose of having this inside a bigger reserviour?

Is there supposed to be fluid inside both parts or just down the middle?

Where are the min & max level indicators?

it's fluid stabilisation. if there wasn't anything around the level sensor, the warning light would come on every time you accelerated or went round a corner

Are there min/max marks on the inside/outside of the reserviour?

The seam is the max mark from memory

Do some reservoirs have another pot so if part of the split system leaks, the other half still has a reservoir of fluid?
