1.2 Drivers

Just wondering, 1.2 8 / 16v drivers. Who has had the biggest scalp in terms of larger engined cars?? Would be interesting to see as i dont know how much slower we are to a lot of the other cars on the road.

Sorry, footballing term. Biggest scalp as in biggest upset. Still dont make sense, mine was probably a 1.4 16v 307. But they are heavier and i think it was a diesel. Not sure what difference that would make.

I had a fairly interesting encounter with a Focus 1.6 on the way back from norwich on friday, we were pretty evenly matched, but then I was driving hard while he was probably only at bout 75% of what he could be using. had to ease off as I was drinkin petrol big stylee too

Another question, mainly to 1.2 16v drivers. If you are booting it, what sort of revs do you let it go up to?? I dont hold it as much in first, but in the others i change at about 5500 - 6000, is that to high or low?

Well theres this island by me, and then after a set distance you get to a speed limit, comming round the island we like to see what speed we can get up to by the time we hit the 30 limit.

My boss has a 600 bike, and got 80, but he has to go around the island alot slower, i blast it round at 30/40, sliding out, as you do, the nail it in 2nd, got 70 2nite, and the roads were slippy

dnt know about upset but i think i embarrassed a bmw and an escort the other day, we were stopped at the lights, i was in the middle and the escort was sitting revving his engine like mad posing etc and when the lights changed i took off, not very rapid but i still managed to pull away from the pair of them lol the escort driver didnt look too amused!

oh and yes i do drive a 1.2 :D

5200rpm is where the max power apparently is on the 1.2 8v, leaves u in the power band (if the 1.2 has one, and yes i am a 1.2 owner) for ur next gear aswell.

anyway, i kept up with a 1.6 astra sport (mk4) on straights, and round the twisties, and yes he was trying since he WAS my mate, and he was chasing a mate and i was chasing him (long story). Apparently he thinks i have major engine work done...hmmm, nope, lol

easily keeps up with a 1.6 16v golf aswell, up til about 50ish on the straights, beat it on the twisties ;)

Not being funny mate but how?? What does it have over a cup?
Its lowered 100mm at the front and 110mm at the rear on coilovers, and handles pretty well!!!!!!!!!

Im not taking the piss here, its 100% true!!! Yozza and Roamer (mr main forum moderater) will confirm

ill agree it goes round bends very well, ive got coilovers on mine (not set as low as fred) and although fred couldnt shake me unlike yozza (hehe) i did have to lift and drop back slightly on some bends where he could carry slightly more speed than me

Not saying i dont believe you mate!! Just cant understand how a 1.2 can keep up with a Cup. Gives me some hope against some of the smaller cars, might start trying it with a few more 1.4 and 1.6.:)

Beat my mates Mk 5 1.6 16v Escort from a standing start but my car feels so bloody slow! Think it maybe feels slower sice putting on dual exist zorst:(

1.2 16v is 5,500 rpm. 1.4 16v and 1.6 16v is 6,000 rpm. Yeah, you could keep up with a 1.4 16von the bottom end if your riding hard

If a decent 1.2 16v driver went up against a decent Cup Driver, the cup would walk it! Its all down to confidence and driver experience! Theres only so fast you can go round a bend aswell, so it shows driver skill over performance. (Fred you could take that as a compliment if you want?!)

Me and my bro went head to head on a major twisty road, him in a 172 and me in a 1.2 and he tanked me, the Car has more grip, you can carry more speed into a bend and the balance of the car was far better.

I was lapping a couple of secs faster a lap than 2 172s and a Cup at brands, lapped a Lotus Cortina, caned an MX5, Pug XSI and GTI-6..all in a days work!

Fred and Rob.......nice going boys lol!! as for revs......maximum power output on my 1.2 16v comes at just over 6000rpm........normally change around then if im giving it some! :) rev-happy wi panel filter n exhaust

Like you Ben keep revs low in first, but then build up from there. second til bout 4500/5000 then third and fourth through to 5500/6000, havent checked exactly where it red lines but when its screaming ill change gear

I wanted to do a 0-60 comparison for all the 1.2 clios but i cant seem to find the 0-60 time for the ph1 and ph2 clios on parkers. They have the times for the 1149cc ph3 but that was multipoint injection and quicker. They have no times for the 1171cc single point.

I have a 1.2 8v S Plate 98 Clio, no mods to the engine what so ever, but on Saturday on the A34 in Birmingham near Shirley I nearly gained one of the biggest scalps ever......what you may ask could it be

A Subaru Impreza Sti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had him to about 25 miles an hour but then his turbo kicked in and left me for dead....... apart from that 1.4 Saxo, and Pugs are fair game as well as the odd 1.4 Clio

Is that the Mk1 ph3 or the Mk2 cos your sig says Mk3.

The mk2 1.2 8v is the slowest of all the clios, 14.5 to 60, if you were beating an sti its cos he has sh*t reactions or just wasnt racing.

Official stas on the single point injection is 60bph,a dn 0-60 in 14.9, i have a wiht a backbox i was getting about 14.5 ish, now i want to time it again with my K&N and de-cat.
