1.2 engine not soundin 2 good

I ave a 1.2 8v 97 clio, wanted a better noise from the engine so got a filter it sounds good in low revs but in high revs it sounds like a machines gun wit really loud bangs so had to put original filter back on, any1 no whats wrong with it.

well could b many things.. 1. possibley blocked injectors making it run lean & cuase pre-ignition.. 2. reving it too high & hitting the limiter... 3. dirty filter.. i used an open air filter on 1.2 8v ( d7f engine ) for 1 day & took the thing off, just sounds annoying & felt as if i lost power specialy above 3,500 rpm
