1.2 Modification

Im at the point now where i want to do bits to my car, its a 1.2 2005 dynamique.

However ibe been thinking instead of:

Rear bumper - £70
Cup spoiler - £120
Lowering - £200
Exhaust - £200
Painting the body parts - £200 (side strips and bumper inserts as well as rear bumper and cup spoiler)

All rough prices.

Or do i take the £790 put it into a savings account, save for a year approx £2000, sell my car (low miles good condition etc) £2000 and buy a new car for circa £5000.

Failing that i could just keep the car as it is and run it to death?

Whats peoples thoughts on modifying a clio 1.2, who's been there and done it, who regrets spending X amount on a 1.2, who has no regrets etc?

Thoughts?

The only reason I slightly modified my 1.2 i.e. colour coding, eibach springs, 172 wheels.. Is because I knew I would keep the car for 3 or 4 years purely because I wanted to wait until insurance was affordable on a sport.

I'd say if the money is available do the small touches, just dont go mad, and if you can afford an upgrade car that isnt years away, keep the money for that.

I've modded mine quite a lot Lol. Tbh I most likely will lose money out of it but I'm not fussed. I'm 19, can afford to do it and will be keeping the car for a good couple of years yet so I've made it into something I want and enjoy driving / being seen in :) each to their own though!
At the end of the day, money comes and goes. You're only young once and it's nice to experiment :)

i spent thousands on my 1.2 16v before swapping it after 12 months for a 172 which i then spent more thousands on. I dont regret spending money on any of them was all fun

I don't regret spending a penny on my 1.2 and I'm still spending money on it now lol, modifications can be an expensive game but you soon realise if you enjoy it how individual you can make your car and how good it feels to have that sense of achievement :) but if you have that much money to save and upgrade why not upgrade to a 182 and spend money modifying that? :)

If you plan on keeping it a few years whilst you wait for an insurance quote thats decent then go for it dude! The only time you could regret spending some money on it would be if you were in two minds of sellin it.... Or if you wrote it off lol! It's always good to see people spending a bit of money On their car to make it look it's best / their own.Do it, do it , doooo it :p

No regrets yet with my 1.2tce... Have her back in 2 weeks.... With a few surprises....

I guess it's up to you what you want from the car, and money etc.... Pesonally I'd not spend a lot on a normal 1.2. I'm doing something special to mine as it's a turbo and never bee done before etc so it depends what your overallmgoal is, don't modify it just because.... Have a plan and an end game.

I had my 1.2 for 3 years. In 2 and a half years all I did was put a K&N on it, Sportlines and some colour coding here and there.

In the last 6 months of owning it, I bought coilovers, wheels and an exhaust. I spend about 1k just doing those bits. Love it for what it was, everybody commented on it and I still miss it to this day. It was my first car and I'm glad that it was epic, The only thing I regretted was 1. taking it on track (and hitting and armco) and 2.the money I lost on all the stuff. You have to realise that spending money on modifications will never act as a return investment. Just make sure you realise that.

If you love your car, why not do it?

Here's a couple of mine, how I miss it.

Jon, yours looks amazing always thought it did!

Its looking a pictures of yours and Joe's, and Knuckles' that make me want to mod mine. At the moment its standard bar some cobra seats (which i put up for sale and have since decided not to) and refurbed alloys in black.

I think im going to go for simple things such as:

172 rear bumper, colour coded front bumper inserts and door handles.

Then spend the rest of the money making what is already (in my opinion) a great condition clio into a 'mint' condition one.

I keep thinking ill upgrade, but then i'm unsure as i know this is a good runner, is economical, has been looked after in the past (over looked after by me).

Lets just see how this next year goes!

Cheers, Have a look at the Non sport modification thread as well. I didn't really fancy doing the whole 172 bumper thing as at the time it had been done loads and I kinda wanted to do something different.

That looks incredible. Love to get mine looking like that.

Cheers :D

Yeah Jon, that looks great mate. What you driving around in now?

Thanks, I've had a Trophy for about 18months now
