1.2 only starts when letting go of key

Bit of a strange one. My Mrs 1.2 16v is occasionally very hard to start. When its playing up it will turn over until you let go of the key then it will try to fire. After a few attempts it will start then be hesitant at low rpm until its warm with a bit of rev hunting for good measure.

I've cleaned the throttle body (nightmare) which seemed to fix it for a while but its back.

Crank sensor?
Coil pack?
Throttle body?
Any other ideas?

cranksensor are common on 1.2's. pennys to buy a new one. fire it on and see what it does.
