1.2 to 172 conversion

  1.2 Clio
Anyone suggest suspension and brakes for me. I'm on standard brakes, drums on rear (Y). Box standard suspension too. I heard that the 172/182 suspension would not fit onto it as the bolts were different spacings or something....
Not going to start the conversions for atleast 6 months but want to price things up.

Thanks

Get some 172/182 front brakes if not some 4 pots brembo/comp4/hi spec etc, the rear drums are fine, suspension, you'd probably be best with some tap adjustable koni shocks with eibach sportline springs.

if you get a conversion from matt black you get all the running gear with it for 1500 quid best off doing that

my 182 engined 1.2 is still on 1.2 brakes and running gear and it seems to stop quite well on the 1.2 brakes

they fade quite quick though so im going to sort some 4pots for the front

drums are more than good enough on the back, mine are too powerfull and try to kick the back out under braking i need to tone them down with a bias valve

oh, and 172 calipers dont fit 1.2 hubs
172 shocks dont fit 1.2 hubs and if you fit the shocks and hubs you'll also need shafts and wishbones + antiroll bar

Did you do all that or just use some uprated suspension like Alan mentioned????

Forgot to mention i wanted to keep the car as visually standard as possible. I want it to look like a 1.2 so no tw4ts will nick it. But i want it to go like stink when i drive it lol....

Sorry to brew this back up again.. however...
Do the springs and shocks from all the mk2's ph2's fit my car apart from 1*2???

i ask this as in car parts for sale under springs there is some debate, over what will fit. I.E if it fits a 1.4,1.6 or a 1.8 will it fit my 1.2??
I know that the 1*2's wont, but will they fit the higher engined ones aswell??
Basically is there 3 differnt types of suspsenions or just 2. If 2 where do they cross over, I.E 1.8/1*2

Thanks again folks :)

mine is 1.2 everything except engine and box.
its got brembo discs and eibach springs but other than that all out of the box.

i do have bigger plans for it but so far the 1.2 shafts and my modded 1.2 subframe seems to be holding up good as gold.

and in response to your other question the best answer is no, shocks especially arent interchangable there are so many different bolt spacings best thing to do is measure the bolt spacing of yours then get on an online parts catalouge like gsf etc
