1.2 to 2.0 Conversion

Just bought an engine from ebay ready to go into my 1.2. Have a couple of questions relating to the engine first though :)

1 . The engine is not sparking up, seems like the key isnt sync'd with the ECU or an imobilizer problem. One choice is to buy a new ecu, uch, keys etc.....any other ideas?

2 . After talking to fredyozzasport apparently the 1.2 16v driveshaft will fit the 2.0ltr engine/gearbox therefore not having to change the hubs etc.
With the engine i have bought i get the 172 driveshafts anyway but no hubs. Would you reccommend me buying uprated discs/calipers and sticking with the 1.2 driveshaft/hubs or to buy 172 hubs with discs?

3 . I had a custom exhaust made by AAS exhausts in newcastle a few months ago, will this be ok with the new engine?

Thanks for your time!
/carl :)

exhaust will have to go in the bin, you need a 2.5inch system

do you have the engine and dash loom, ecu, uch, decoder ring, keys etc from the donor engine?

you will defo need to upgrade the front discs! how much was the engine if you dont mind me asking and are you personally fitting it yourself?

Have you swopped all the looms etc also somtimes need to get the renault computers plugged in any sync it all together again. plus ECU's can die during conversions. checka ll your connections though. Have you got fuel?

Each to there own I'd have swoped for the 172 hubs for the stronger shafts and bigger disks or least used the 172 shafts and got the bearings pushed into the old hubs.

It can be matched depends how bad bore etc it is. At a guess its most likly the wrogn size so you'll have to idealy chnage it.

wouldnt you recommend though? not really safe as he wont be running rear discs?

Rear disk vs drums make no difference.

Recomend to ch age yep but depending on what the cars used for its not exxential after all possible better sticking with the smaller disks and 4 pots for reduction in unsprung weight and ability to use smaller wheels.

i think the system ive got is 2.5 inch cat back so could i just replace from the cat forward?

Could sell the wheels too.
The donor car isn't an RS either so I assume it ran the rs engine or has the previous owner fitted it and not finished it?

just measured exhaust its around 2-2.5 inch diameter cat back.

Would 2 inch diameter be too narrow? :(

Being as the car seemingly never ran in the old car it was in your stuck realy knowing if it will ever work.

Keys are programmed once then locked UCH can be recoded but you need a Renault computer to program and a electrical specialist programmer to uncode them the ECU can be uncoded again by experts and coded once first used if blank on a car.

oh i can buy an ecu/uch/key etc from mat for 150 quid +vat....would that be cheaper than getting them unlocked and recoded?

Yep.

UCH new are £180
Keys are £160 each programmed.
ECU are £180 or so I think new.
Plus you'd ned it all sending to Renault to program anyway.

Unlcoking the ECU is £70 ish the UCH probably the same. Plus you still need to get it to Renault to recode them to your car anyway.

if the imob is wrong the engine should still spark but you wont get any fuel, is is turning over fast? are you getting compression?
