any ideas on how 2 get more power from a 1.2 diet engine?

bear in mind you will not get alot.
Induction kit, full sports exhaust.
some inlet work. Talk to angelworks I hear they are good
It really depends on how much you wanna spend.
A premade remap is £35 from hill power I think and hell only charge you about that again to remap it after fitting other mods(if fitted at hill power)

well on my 1.2 8v clio im hopping by the end of april to have it sitting at around the 80-85 bhp mark will be doing this with induction kit (moved behind head lamp with good air feed) bigger TB full exhaust system decat 4-2-1 manifold cams and possible head work to be fair it aint really worth it im just doing this as i am getting a good deal on the parts from a member on here and will be a good fun untill i can get my 172 when i 21

nothing wrong with it, but is it really worth the cash? its still never going to be fast!

suppose its the same with any modding though... if i knew i was going to spend what i have modding my 172 id have bought a 350z rather than the french peice of poo

yup it wont be fast but will be nippy good fun for a younger driver not so fast it will be stupid speeds when u cant drive that good yet no offence but no expreince yet as i like to think of my self as a abled driver but not the best as only been driving a year and had a bike for a yr b4 that thing is tho if u got a 350z ud mod that then say wish id got **** lol

Its probably not worth doing too much apperance wise, mostly apperance items on 1.2s

The map is for an unmodified engine. They are a little conservative to allow for minor differences from car to car. But if you get it and have any mods from hill power im the future he will only charge you another 35 to alter the map to match the mods. A full remap is about 250 i think. Personally i think 35 is worth it to smoothe pickup even if you only get a couple bhp more

best advice i can give you is to test drive a sport before moding and make your own decision then.

Thats a matter of opinion. I dont think its worth the money to drink but im not gonna start telling people its a bad idea.

strip it to save weight and sort out the handling, cat back exhaust system to give you a bit of noise to make it more fun.

ive been there done that with the 16v engine and can tell you its not worth it at all touching the engine.

depends how much you want to spend but id go for the following....

HANDLING:
FK Coilovers (APEX -60mm kit if you cant afford coilovers)
15" wheels with 4 Eagle F1 195/50 tyres
Uprated brake disks and pads (possibly Brembo Max and EBC Green stuff?)

You could then go even further like i did and get front and rear strut braces & Powerflex suspension bushes

WEIGHT SAVING:
strip out the backseats, spare wheel & tool kit to save weight, if you want to go more extreme get a set of buckets to replace the front seats since they weigh a ton with the airbags in them.

FUN FACTOR!:
Cat back exhaust, Smaller racing steering wheels, B&M Quickshift


at the end of the day tho its only a 1.2, it will never be fast but theres no doubt it WILL be one of the most fun cars you'll drive with all they mods!

There is only one solution to your problem and that is nitrous, plus you can take it with you when your car is sold/written off/explodes. just dont run 50bhp jets like i did on my 1.2 and shoot a piston

upgrade brakes and suspension to make it go rd corners faster lol

What he said. Thats exactly what I'm doing. My 1.2 8v is staying exactly stock.

If you do modd it. You'll look back in 12 months and think. I wish I saved for a 182.

A quick fix is to do a MOFO and strip it out. Keep all the bits though! Be careful when its wet because a couple of people have crashed their 1.2 thats been stripped.

you can buy a cd off ebay that comes with loads of pre written maps for standard engines.
Only problem is I think the cable for a clio is expensive

thats the yozza cup, hes talking about his black 1.2 16v dynamique before he put the 2.0 16v lump in it, and yep thats true was passing 172's round a track.

if you want power, convert it, if you dont want to convert it dont touch the 1.2 engine wise, apart from noise to make it more fun etc.

if your so set on modding the engine, just optimise intake & outlet (catback with decat & panel filter)

ive thought bout an engine conversion 2. but i think this would cost alot and cos i stay in glasgow is there any places which would do this?

engine conversion (assuming its a fairly straight forward conversion your doing) such as a 2.0 16v 172 engine into a 1.2 clio is fairly easy as long as you have some decent tools.

k-tec do the conversion for £3000 (inc all parts +VAT) but tbh for that money id rather spend £1500 on a conversion kit from matt black and spend £1500 on coilovers and brakes or cams and a decent exhaust by doing it myself.
