1.2 Turbo??

Okay i know im probably going to get alot of people asking why and save for a 172 etc, but i want to know if it would be possible to turbo the 1.2 8v/16/ engine by using the turbo and manifold of a 15.dci for example?

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

yeah if you could find them.

brand new from renault and you might as well buy three supercharged clio v6's and pocket the change

just translplant the whole half cut

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

not a mod standard engine, not alot of different but with a bit of work then mayb cud be faster!!

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

yr cud use them but as said alot of dosh, its the same engine judt with diff manifolds wiring etc,

Yer i understand it would be expensive, hoping to find maybe a write off somewhere etc, but would the engine be able to take all of this im not scared of the hardwork just want to know if it would be possible.

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

yes its possible if u put in the work and effort, if u find a write off u might aswell take the whole engine, but really all the work wont be worth the effort wen u see the performance imo,

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

Well what kind of BHP do you think would be achieved and anybody know what the boost pressure is on the mk 3 turbo?

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

about 120bhp max has been achieved

to be honest mate i drove a twingo gt the other day and wanted to gouge my eyes out to make it more interesting.

if you go through all of that heart ache fitting it into a heavier car you will be more than disappointed, suicidal maybe.

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

No-one has tried yet afaik, but the 1.2TCE turbo manifold and turbo should fit onto the 1.2 16v motor.

Bit pointless, as the turbo is tiny, and should you decide to take the management from the TCE over too you will have no end of troubles with immobilisers and ignition cut overboost defenders etc. The manifold has a wierd flange and won't accept T25 turbos.

The Diesel is likely to have different port spacing so it won't bolt on. Also diesel turbos won't take the temperatures and will melt.

Best bet is a volvo 1.7t, or try a complete clio 16valve conversion (cheap as chips)

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

standart 1.2 16v 75bhp, turbo 1.2 16v is think 95-100bhp, not sure boost tho, its bit more nippy off the line, not sure how well they tune up on remap but wud like 2 know?

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

Okay well i know the car is quite heavy but i would be making it into a road rocket, would be stripping it completly so 120bhp would be quite nice, but i rekon with a few more upgrades to it i could see more out of it then 120bhp, was thinking of upping the boost pressure?? or using another turbo seeing as its so small.

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

imo i wud go 4 a 1.5 dci would get the same if not more power/performance and would save money on fuel cost and tax, : )

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

This is true but hey i want to be different and some times its not about saving money. Would love to have a 1.2 turbo. Im hoping for around 150bhp if i decide to do this.

good condition valver engine will make 137bhp as standard and a minter can be had for about £200. If not buy a cheap one and rebuild the head, dead cheap parts.

Edit: uniqueness - there is not a single F7P (valver) MK2 I know of.

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

Hmm maybe a transplant would be the best option then i always wanted a turbo haha, what about turbo'in a valver?? and would it fit in a mk 2 ph1?

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

cant use a turbo from any diesel on a petrol engine as the turbine shaft will melt

yes. Turbo'd valvers are fairly common. T25 turbo manifolds are cheap (think they come up on ebay sometimes). ECU chips can be had and programmed (see williamsclio.co.uk forum). No immobilisers to worry about (ph1).
Interesting little project. Then all you need to worry about is the strength of the gearboxes (but that's all renault boxes)

Re: 1*2 Turbo??

Hmm well if it fits then maybe this could be the route i go down i rekon about 1k?? About the gearbox would you recomend uprating it and to what?

you can't 'uprate' it without spending about 8k on a sadev tbh. Just leave it and if it breaks, get another.

and at £1k, your having a laugh. Call it 200 or 300 for fitting a completely unmolested valver engine with a new cambelt.
at the cheapest add:
turbo 250
manifold 250-300
Intercooler 200
oil take offs + returns + hoses ??
boost Pipework - much more than you think
ECU chip ?80
map sensor ?100
exhaust mods 100+

running more than about 170lb/ft ->
then you need forged con-rods and pistons 6-700+

and that's before you've made a nice job of it too.
budget about £2.5 or 3k i'd say.

Go N/A if you want upgrades for £1k

Hmm well i can do most of the work myself as im a mechanic and that will keep costs down, this could be a project for college lol. Anyways i dont think i would turbo it straight away think ill still to N/A and spend maybe 1k-1500?

I don't have useful information to help as ive just got my own car and such but mate good luck with it. :)

get a job first to get your car on the road then think about doing stuff lol and good luck

Haha very funny, thinking im going to start stripping the car today then work out some prices and find some parts. Im looking forward to this lol.

Rang up a scrappy saw an engine on ebay and it had no gearbox no loom nothing just the engine and that was £299 including delievery which i thought was a bit steep.
