1.2 vs dCi 65

  185lb/ft dCi
I have been arguing with my mate about this for the whole day and hes starting to piss me off, I need some figures from the big guys. He reckons this girls mk2 ph2 1.2 16v would piss all over me on track and I just fail to believe it. With the extra torque I have it will come in great use on track and 1.2 isnt even very quick anyway. I need your help!

He reckons that keeping it at 4k-6k rpm around the corners would beat me out of the corners, with the extra torque I have lower down in the gears I cant see it! I really need a day at donnington!!

  top of the pyramid
I would say the petrol but unsure i cant see the dci having alot ,or any more torque than the petrol. id say theyll probly be pritty much the same, im guessing the 65 means 65bhp btw.

i think they be as slow as each other on a track tbh.

yeah i didnt say my dci was fast, just faster than a 1.2 on track. it annoys me though as he just goes on parkers.co.uk and just pulls stats off there!

Id say the 1.2 16v petrol would have the advantage.

The Dci has plenty of torque but to get spooled for delivery and putting the power down when needed can be a challenge.

The petrol has enough umph to keep it going pretty well.
0-60 times are reasonably different.

The 1.2 is supprisingly poky on track.

yep.

you would get caned mate...

fred used to keep up with 172's in his 1.2

iirc he never had to brake much though. lol

hmmm but edde said that he basically had a drag race with a 1.4 and the 1.4 was only 1.5 car lengths ahead each time... i would rather ram the 1.2 off the track than lose to it

Edde is convinced it would beat a 1.2 in a drag race.

The DCi would do better on a track than a drag race as it has more torque enabling it to pull out of corners at lower revs with ease.

As someone said alot will be down to driver skill.

lol..

65bhp... Yeah, but as has been said, on a track you're using what.. 2 gears per straight ??? The rest of the advantage is torque out the corners, and considering neither have superior suspension I would think the 65 would win.

Anyway. Pointless debating it, someone needs to do hot consecutive laps with 1.2 and 65... And let's be honest. Who would WANT to do that ;)

depends how much balls each driver has in bends.

keep the 1.2 above 3,500-4000k in the bends and it would have the edge over the extra torque that the dci has to pull out bends. in my opinion

i know for a fact mine could go round a twisty track pretty quick but its very well set up and no where near standard so...

Be interesting to see I don't think ther'd be much in it. Its down to drivers. I can keep up with some 2.0's on track on my car stock as I drive a bit quick you' need to get a driver to drive both cars who can actualy get the best out of them

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sOpmVnUtfQ (wait till its about a minute in thats when it gets going)

Thats gives you an idea how fast the dci can do Donny in (1.46) and for comparison Yoozasports 225hp Clio with all its fancy bits can do a 1.28

On track whilst the 1.2 has the power a bit top end out the bends is where you need it.

Kepping the dci in the power band and usable is so much easier than the 1.2
