1.4 16V Cambelt £500?

  Focus, GSXR1000 & R6
Hi all,
Got a quote on my cambelt today and with parts I was quoted £480 or just over £500 if I dont have a certain pully. Is this right or way to high? I have had another garage say they wont do it. Can anyone recommend anywhere around peterborough to get it done if not?

Forgot to say its a 2000 MK2 1.4 16v Alize

Thanks for any help in advance!
Dan

It was including Cam belt kit, water pump and Aux belt, just seems very high, is it really that bad to do!!??

That is too high, thats what we charge at work ( main dealer). If you were around me I could do it for £150. The reason garages dont like doing the 16v engines is because they do not have keyways on the crank or cam and you need the locking tools to do it. But back to the point, that price is abit high.

Where abouts are you? And how much do the parts cost then? Stupidly I did not get break down of prices!

it is gonna be fairly expensive either way but not £500

ive had rough quotes varying from about 300 - 400 not including extra for a water pump if needed (personally I would get it changed)

the pully they're talking about is probably the aircon one i should think..... although i thought it was just a different belt they had to order

I did expect around £400 but not £500+! They did not say anything about a belt, they said that there is a pully that renault shim and that the shim can come off, obvioulsy causing cam belt failure, and that it can be changed for one without a shim, and that they cannot tell if its needed until they get all apart!

I was £270 to have a 1.2 one changed, main dealer as well.
1.2 is different though dead easy on them.

Go to another garage.
