1.6 16v oil dissapearing

  Rover 620ti, MK1 Valver
hey people, need some opinions!

i have a w reg clio 1.6 16v with 55k on the clock.

it tends to go through more oil than i think it should.

i did roughly 150 miles over the weekend and the oil level went from half down to just above min on the dipstick (did not boot it.. only stuck the foot down once for a gear or so)

i dont think it is leaking oil (gearbox looks a bit damp mind you) and it is not taking any water.

i have had a couple of opinions on this... "the previous owner must of ragged it when it was cold" and "it will be because of your induction kit".

i do give it the occasional bit of shoe when its heated up but not really all the time.

anyone got any ideas? could it be burning it?.. i have been using castrol gtx magnatec (10/40 semi synth), think i will try a different brand to see if it makes any difference.

All opinions welcome :)

Were you on level ground? Give it time to cool down and settle? Get someone to follow you in your car and ask them if they see blue smoke, if yes then its burning it. also check your plugs are like a browm sugar colour, if they are oily then its definatly burning it. If its black and sooty dont worry too much, just a little bit rich

it was cold when i checked it but the ground is a bit of a slope.. i will check it in the morning on level ground and see what happens, shall check my plugs aswell! Do you think trying a different brand of oil will make a difference?

My bad... rolled it onto slightly more level ground today and it was half full, lol. blame it on the inacurate dipstick :rasp:
