1.6 16v power upgrade

Hi all I'm not sure if this is in the right section but here goes
i have a 53 plt 1.6 16v k4m clio and wanted a bit more out of it i was thinking some home brew induction kit with cold feed de-cat exhaust and just remove the baffles / remove parts of the baffles in the back box for a more free flowing exhaust and inlet and then a set of injectors now inlet and exhaust aren't an issue as I know i can happily do these myself it's just which injecters to get would injecters from a 172/182 fit straight into my inlet/fuel rail or would I need something els I know once I do the injectors I will NEED a custom remap but just what injecters exctally and would I need a different fuel pump or would my existing one surfic? It's not a track munching monster as i use it daily for work and have tow bar for practical reasons just looking for a little more out of it and I'm happy with the car and before anybody says get a 172 or 182 it's just outside my financial limits I mean i would love one but just can't afford the insurance or justify having one as said I don't really do track days been on couple but nothing more than a bit of fun just looking for bit more out of it is all

ALright chap.

RE: Insurance. By the time you declare your go-faster mods (which, of course, you will) you may find it's cheaper just to buy a 172.
Not to mention buying said 172 will be significantly cheaper than pouring good money, after bad, into your current car.

Quite frankly, if running costs and insurance are an issue, you'd be better off tuning one of the DCi Clios than persevering with the 1.6.

Listen to CS, we've seen it happen plenty of times before, it's always the same story.

And, think about it, if you were to get a 172, you'd have a better interior, more mod cons, better MPG when you're trying to make swift progress and, so long as you don't then proceed to chavify it, a car which will still have a degree of value.

Whereas a bastardised 1.6 will be worth less than a 1-former-owner KFC zinger burger.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but it is the truth

The above are right I hate to say. I have BTDT with many many cars now including:

-Ford Focus 1.6
-Ka ;to be fair it was a lovely handler on the Ford Racing Kit
-MGB ;again it was great but it did cost a fortune
-Spitfire 1500 ;someone else threw a fortune; it was quick, but certainly no comparison to an MX-5 or S2000 which would run rings around it.
-Porsche 944 Turbo ;again, someone threw around £4k at the suspension and brakes (KWv3s with 965 (964 Turbo) front brakes (Jesus they are pricey!) and larger wheels to accomodate the brakes). Whilst that IMO is comparable to a good chassis -(some people with similar setups have done 7:45minutes around the 'ring,) it did not feel trustworthy or as refined as say an Audi RS4 on the limit.
-Escort RS Turbo ; someone long ago threw 14k at that car and it didn't handle right when I got it despite it being fully polybushed with Leda coilovers. It is good now but it still needs improving and I have put some cash towards it when you would have expected perfection for the above figure. I have probably thrown another £500 at the suspension (read damper rebuild, 4 new tyres and camber adjusters for the rear ; it did not previously have them and IMO it badly wanted them!). Whilst it is silly quick now my Clio is a better handler I hate to say and dare I say it so are many modern hatches.
-BMW E36 323i - A friend did the work prior to me buying it but I will not say how much he threw away for the sake of his marriage. Whilst an M3 would not have been cheaper unless we were talking about power a sorted 328i Sport would have easily have been bought for what he sunk into that car.

As said a Clio 172 would be cheaper to buy, run and maintain due to familiarity with mechanics (Don't even ask about the issues I have with ordering bits for the Escort "Yes, I have an RST but half of the engine is a Mondeo..."), and generally less hassle. With the way the forum talks the values down (sorry chaps) I'd say you could get a very straight 172 for £2-2.2k with it wanting for nothing or around £1-1.5k if it requires a little work ; a friend of mine bought a tattyish but sound car for £800 albeit it required an engine mount, cambelt change and PAS hose to make it roadworthy but not super tidy. I have come very close here, but I do need a cambelt admittedly but it was less than the above top figure. OTOH it did come with many desirable extras including Turini wheels with 4 good tyres, and a Cup spoiler ;).

The true question which only you can answer is whether you wish to fiddle with a car. This can be for the experience, giving the car some charactoer by taking a different path, doing something a little different to the norm, attempting to make a statement against people's advice, or simply to see what the engine can do. Don't however kid yourself that you can get close to 172 performance for pocket change. Things soon add up. Engine work and tuning is far from cheap, and that is before you get to brake and suspension upgrade which will almost certainly require tyre changes etc.

Thanks for the replys I do not want a 172 nor 182 for that matter u can't tow with it and I picked the car up for £900 @82ish thousands miles I know it's not sport oriented and like I've said nor is it k going to be a stripped out tracker for fun I was mainly just asking if it were poss to fit 172/182 injecters and about the exhaust de-baffleing witch a good friend has a mig welder and between us we can definitely do injector swap I know i will need re-mapping which would be a custom job I'm not looking for a 172 wanna be in any way I am just after a little more from it as I like the car it does what I want it to do and I don't have 2 or 3k to go out n get another car nor afford insurance i'v had in over a year now and was just looking to shake things up a bit as it was but after some of the comments I'm pretty put off by the whole forum now

So you have been put off the forum by us offering our experience and potentially aiding you in avoiding disappointment? Brilliant.

Remapping, suspension changes to cater for the power increase and other bits soon add up quicker than your think. Surely even you must be aware that remapping is not the cheapest thing out there and decats and freer flowing system do not have the effect they did years ago on cars in most cases.

OTOH maybe you are on the windup...
