16" wheels....non sport, no lowering

  3 Series touring
Hi guys,
have tried a search but its hard to find this sort of thing ,

as im still in my first year (and with direct line :dapprove:) i am unable to lower my clio, however i should be able to get away with new wheels, im thinking of getting some white 16s and just wondered how much they fill the arches,

any pics would be appreciated
cheers
Ben

thanks , currently on 14" steelies, will the alloys reduce the arch gap, or will it remain the same then?

It will definately reduce the arch gap, but the car will sit a lot higher off the ground... i.e. a good 2 inches higher off the ground.

so im stuck now then , stick with shitty steelies untill i can lower (could be a year)
or go foro 16's (or 15's of course)

^^ see like that i could live with , bearing in mind that im on sh1t wheels at the moment.
i just think even with the gap it will give a much nicer overall look to the car

i had the 172 wheels on mine and i wernt planning to lower it by much but as soon as i saw what it looked like i felt sick and had to put it on its ass

if you get 16's you'll immediately want to lower it as it looks ridiculous.
N.B. eibach prolines looks verrrrrrrrrry similar to standard springs *cough*

hmmm...interesting point mate....may have to look into that!! what sort of drop do we think though i got a feeling to geo on my drive , and the many many many speedbumps around here 40 is a good drop?

  PH-QUICK
when i had my 1.2 i put eibach sportlines on which took it down about 40mm, anymore than that will just destroy your spine.

have a look on europerformaceparts or the eibach website, best springs for the 1.2 by far.

Noo way. On a clio, 40mm isnt really noticeable.. Im on FK coilovers, wound down to about 90mm

thats the problem, i need this car for a while yet so i dont want to end up with the sh1t ride quality which is why i suggested 40 mm.... any pics of 40 mm on 15/16s?

that, plus student-ish money is gonna make this difficult i suspect

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
Its by no means a "s**t" ride quality. the handling is amazing on it; like its on rails.
You just get more feeling as to what kinda road surface you are on...

so more responsive..that sounds like a plus side, but im still thinking its gonna have to be springs, not much popint in going for 40 mm coils is there?

^^ that looks lower though...anything to do with dymanique springs? ( i only got an expression! :( )
loks good though

looks good!
i suppose what i need to do is find the wheels i want, and then find a clio with them on to give me a better idea seeing as the 16's on yours look great not lowered...but n!ck's looked million times better lowered

i wouldnt mind lowering it a bit but coilovers would be a waste on a 65bhp dci. only comfortable for track really and i dont think i could out up with the ride quality for too long

Not worth it imo! Here's mine (17 wheels I know) before I lowered it, found this pic the other day and wondered what the hell I was thinking driving something like this!

What level of insurance cover do you have? its never great to mis inform your insurance company as it is a breach of your terms and conditions of cover but if your on TPFT it makes no difference really because if you have a fault accident your not coverd for your own vhc, if you have a non fault accident you will proberly have your car written off by the other insurace company. If worse did come to worse your car could be inspected by an engineer but most of them do not care about small mod's especially on fairly low value car's just spray the eibach sportlines black they never notice a 30mm drop nither will your run of the mill traffic cop.

Well im fully comp and have declared all of my mods.. The lowering didnt make that much difference to the insurance price.

This is how mine currently looks, I'm not really fussed that it looks high, as it's only on here that people castrate you for it! :) Also slightly less noticeable with it being a black car and it will going on Sportlines in a couple of weeks anyway.
