16s or 17's

  Megane Trophy
as my other post hasnt been answered yet

Im keen to change me wheels before long,
I really fancy some turinis but 2nd hand there still expensive and rare as hell. New price there like £700 and cant really afford them!

Car currently has 16's on and they do look very small on the clio, so as there are so many more wheels available in 17's i may take the risk.

Whats peoples opinions from 16's - 17's
notice the performance difference? notice any handling changes?

looking to get a superleggera style of wheel perhaps

and i cant see the rolling radius being that more on 17's that 16's

this is fo r a mk2 172 by the way, and what offset would i need for both?
cheers

Brad

Most would say, which i agree, that any larger than 16 and you comprimise the performance. If you don't mind that then get some 17's!

I bought my mk1 172 with 17's on it, and have changed them for 16's from a mk2 172, and the differance is noticable, although not massive.

ant

  yep.
i stuck with 16". rather not comprimise any performance over looks.

superleggeras, gloss black.

i went from the std 16"s on my mk2 172 to 17"s, big mistake, handling is awful, ride is awful, performance is also effected somewhat. Back on 16"s now.

too keep the rolling radius the same, you need a v low profile tyre, which affects grip and handling, aswell as how the power is put down.

The thing is everyone runs turinis and id prefer to be slightly different,

they do suit the clio the best i must admit that, but there so rare and I cant blow £800 on some turinis new

There arent many 16's that are that nice apart from them, shame the superleggera doesnt come in a 16", plus thats been discontinued now as well

I havent got a clue what to do now

Supperleggera's did come in 16.. or what the the turismo? theres also the OZ F1's?

I take it you want multispoked alloys?

superleggera has been discontinued as i said,
not really multi multi spoke, but like 10 spokes i like and the superleggera i love

found some boss wheels the same style for £500 new in 17's, quality is actually pretty good

Well 16" to 17" is 6.25% increase in radius (i.e. changing your gearing ratio by that much). I think it is very noticeable difference

i had 16's which i thought were too small so i went for 17's which is exactly what i wanted :)

forgot to say.. rarerims offer more than what's on their website.. maybe able to get what you want in 16" ?
195/45/16 = 290.95mm rr
205/40/17 = 297.9mm rr
215/40/17 = 301.9mm rr
at worst you're gonna throw the speedo out 3mph when travelling at 70mph

lower it on 16s and they look just right, 17s look to big on them.

most 172/182 owners buy the car because of the handling and performance not just beacuse it has fancy bumpers and seats, so why waste it with bigger wheels?

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
its an age old debate eh, personally i think 17's handle like sh*te on the rs, most ppl dont listen tho, after several hundred £ on 17's & 6 months l8r they put the 16's back on then realise. if you like turinis & supaleggs have a look at td prorace 1.2?

  Megane Trophy
but there only black, and i dont like black wheels on a black car

I may just have to fork out extra cash, unless i can part ex my current wheels

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
? you can get 1.2's in silver, black or white. or buy a set & refurb them like i did ;-)

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
ya i had a battered old 1978 fiesta when i was a student all i could afford. some ppl are very lucky eh

Its hardly lucky,
I work 18+ hours a day 7 days a week for 3 months of the year
thats gods honest truth. work on a farm getting the harvest in.
start at 6.30 everyday, cut till 3am some nights if rain is forecast

so that pays for uni and my cars

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
172 rims are going for about £200ish maybe slightly more for 5 & the condition, if you plan to keep the car then flog them to get the rims you really want. 15's are very cheap also

182 wheels on ebay now 4 of them are going for £200 with 4 days to go

i could just swap them onto my tyres as they have lots of rubber left on them
