16v ABS BIG TROUBLE!

Came up to a junction with lights on red and went to press the brake when foot went to floor with ease & brakes worked VERY slowly (if at all) & thought i was gonna go into this junction! ABS was giving feedback to pedal but the brakes just worked very slowly with no power and brake pedal had no or very little tension!

All i thought was what if there was a car ahead or even coming up to a wall, so ive taken my ABS fuse out & hopefully this should never re-occur!

My rear passenger side brake seems to make a crrrrrrr noise now. Something between pad & disc?

When it comes to ABS & Brakes, dont f**k about, take it to the dealer mate.

ABS fault so if ABS aint engaging (fuse out) then it should be sweet. Must say this is the first time the ABS has kicked in & basically COMPLETELY not worked.

You would be as well getting it looked at by a specialist - By removing the fuse you are also invalidating your insurance.

WRONG, didnt even ask if it had ABS so it cant be invalid if i choose not to use the optional unit anyway IMO. Anyway, its not rocket science to put a fuse back in, plus im sure theyd rather me have brakes that work rather than some that could quite easirly total my car!

If i went to Reno about this prob id may as well get a chuffing loan & get a 2lt conversion, new alloys, leather trim, as it sounds like a V. expensive job to replace the master cyclinder/ABS computer, etc.

I guess it depends if it was an option or standard fit on the car - if it was standard fit then the insurance is most probably void.

A renault dealer will charge a huge amount to "fix" it which is why I said take it to a specialist. In my experience most ABS problems are caused by faulty wheel sensors which are fairly cheap/easy to replace.

An option on a 16v mate. To be honest i dont rate any ABS anyway as they are only better for a decent driver in wet conditions. In the dry & at lowish speeds they want to work but just dont help the matter IMO.

It wasnt due to the ABS! 1 of my rear off-side brake pads had snapped out!

Hence the grinding! Fixed now with jus new pads as the discs werent too bad but they ordered me new ones which didnt have the bearing in as the old ones did which is why they didnt fit them! Saved me a ton though.

I think they put Mintex on but it doesnt really matter as they are the rear brakes anyway. Why?
