16v engine rebuild

  Bmw M4 & Clio 16v

I have just stripped my clio 16v engine to just a block and now want to rebuild it. it has 105,000 miles and needs a freshen up before I tune it and put it back into my very heavily modified clio 16v.

also want to chrome it up and make it look awesome.

Can anyone help??

its very easy to take something apart.. the trick has always been the putting back together.

I have just taken all of the ancillieres off and removed all brackets etc, have not actually opened up the engine yet, as was going to get some more advice and help first. Should be able to put it back together fine i think??

make sure all bearing caps etc go back where they were removed from.torque tighten cap bolts, headbolts etc when rebuilding.make sure the gaps in the piston rings arent in line with each other when rebuilding.replace all gaskets and belts.oil end shells etc before refitting.are you changing the end shells etc? there are quite a few things to look out for when stripping/rebuilding.get a manual if your not sure what your doing.

Thanks would have liked someone to do it for me but just works out so expensive even if the engine is already out of the car!

Good idea to use an engine building paste, engine lube or similar when re-building. Helps with initial bedding in after startup. I use graphite paste.

If replacing shells, have the crank inspected for ovality and if necessary have it re-ground. You will then need to source +25 oversize bearings (+50 or 75 if the engineer went made on the crank)

I was gonna just do the following items on the engine and then have the head ploished and ported.

Uprated full headgasket set / Bolts, Bottom end gasket / seal set, Piston Rings, Hydraulic camshaft lifters, Crankshaft bearings, Oil pump service kit, Water pump, Cambelt, Cambelt tensioner, Cambelt idler pulley, Alternator belt, Spark plugs, Oil filter, Coolant / Antifreeze and Synthetic engine / gearbox oil.

thoughts?

Yer mate, I have just finished mine, Will be putting it back in the car at the weekend. You need to get the Haynes manual on it to get all the correct torque settings. Get the crank knife edged while you are at it. Get who ever grinds your crank to supply the new oversized shells to go wth it.
