16v Q - First Minute Problem

  Skoda Fabia vRS

this only really happens from when the car has been left for a few hours, if its still hot then its ok

basically for the first 30 seconds/1 minute of me driving the car is low on power and feels like its only runnin on 3 cylinders, after ive drove down the road its fine, jus comes back to life suddenly

but, its drivin me up the wall, what could it be ?

is there any kind of auto choke that i could maybe look at, or is it likely a faulty sensor ?

auto choke is the cts! I think I remember you saying you changed it when you had starting troubles? What to do is when you knwo its going to happen unplug it then drive the car, if the problem is worse/better then have a look at another cts.

But also make sure the MAP sensor pipe is free from oil, carb cleaner blasted down it from the sensor end will do the job nicely.

thanks mate ill give it all a go

one point, the hose that connects to the inlet manifold which comes from the map sensor, mine is araldited onto the manifold because the bit it goes onto, on the manifold, snapped off, do you think this might have anything to do with it ?

dont other things need the info from the CTS though mate ?.......like fuelling etc, wont unplugging it completely bugger it all up

Most of us have this problem mate!

I dont think many have solved it and Im not sure if everyones is quite the same problem.

Check/Change things like

HT Leads
Dizzy Cap
Rotor Arm
ISCV
CTS
Lambda Sensor
Potentiometer
ECU

Cant thing of any more right now but the list is endless.

Ive had what sounds like the same thing on my valver for two years and not fixed it. Just learnt to live with it. Still cant believe how random it is. Some days are fine and others arent lol

What happens if you start it up in the morning say, and just let it idle?

  Skoda Fabia vRS

it idles perfectly normally, but once you go to drive off it hesitates, low on power and the exhaust note isnt quite right, 1 min later and its all fine

ive replaced most things on that list

5 at most really........if you mean seperate ones for each gear im in, after that its fine

its like its runnin on 3 cylinders really.......jus not itself at all

it might be the lambda

If the ecu knows its not running right, after ten repetitions, itll read off the map, and not off lambda

I think (If I remember what Andy BBPT told me lol)

I didnt think the lambda sensor worked for the first couple of minutes, whilst it gets upto temperature, in that time the ECU should be working in open loop mode :)

(not trying to prove anyone wrong, just what ive been told in the past)

lambda wont perate whilst open loop fueling is occuring (cold start enrichment), it runs rich in order to get the engine and cat up to temp as quick as possible.

Unpluging the CTS makes the ecu think that its crazy cold, it then ignores the lack of signal from it and reverts to base map fueling to run. So it will run ok.

As long as the MAP pipe stud isnt blocked/leaking (spray soapy water/wd40 on it when the engines running to cheack) then that wont be a problem.

These problems are a right PITA to sort out. I have bens 16V here, it normally runs great but it did do the usual Ill idle like crap after a few seconds running, where the idle would drop right down then shoot back up then struggle down low again. Although its not done it for a while now and its not happened since I changed the cambelt which was as always on the 16Vs fitted by renault dealers silly loose, I done it properly though.

CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER!!!! I HAD THIS PROBLEM AND CHANGING THAT GOT RID OF ALL LUMPY SPOTS, AND ALL HESITATION IN THE MORNING -appologies for the caps lock

:D

  clio 16v

so if its overfuelling slightly to get things up to speed, and warm enough, but i dont have a cat, so am i damaging my car?

what i dont have a cat either

but now i have more soot then ever on the end of my zorst pipe

makes my zorst look like i stole it off an escort crap rs turbo

its not that old, only done about 6k on it, suppose i could change it again though, its pretty cheap and easy to do

might try the CTS thing in the mornin if ive got time, rarely do, plus ive now got a problem with the alarm !...

sorted

a few weeks ago i messed with the little 8mm nut which has a thread runnin through it, it controls where the throttle cable rests on the TB

i put that back as it was and everything is fine now

this problem has come back

ive changed the TB now for one that hasnt been fiddled with but the problem remains

got a new lambda to try
