16v suspension

Whats the diffrence between 1.8 16v suspension and the rest of the models?

Wider track?

Would 1.8 16v shocks fit lesser models like my 1.4rt???

Cheers Dave

Depends on hub sizes as to whether it would fit I think, but yeah also slightly wider track. Doubt that would affect the shock though.

I asked this a while ago there seemed to be mixed opinions (I'll try and find the post.) A lot of people seemed to think that as long as the strut to hub bolt spacing was the same (54mm) then it would work fine. I know that the springs are definately intechangeable (i.e. 16v springs will go on a 1.4 shock) but I'm not 100% on the struts.

Track is exactly the same.

Hole spacing on teh hub varies between models/years, there seems to be no method to renault's madness, if tyhe spavcing is the same shocks will fit

Springs will fit, but they will be a higher poundage for the valver, not a bad thing, don't forget valver springs are slightly shorter then the 1.2/1.4 springs

No Lunner, its not the same....the clio valver has wider front track than the lesser model (this is why a 16v rear beam won't fit an RSI or less) and williams wider still...but this difference between clio valver and non-16v is just down to the hub carriers.

Basically;

if you have 54mm strut hole spacing you can fit clio valver shocks but you won't have valver track,

if you fit valver (R19 or clio) hub carriers you'll have clio valver front track.

As Lunner said though, springs are independant of anything...16v will fit lesser models and vice versa. 1.8 16v shocks are about 20mm shorter than lesser models so 35mm valver springs = 55mm non 16v springs.

Hmmm mixed opions then. lol. I dont wnat a wider track, but i am looking into coilover for my clio turbo. Was thinking of using 16v ones because of the higher poundage, as the 1.7t engine i am puting in is a lot heavier than the Rt one coming out.

Cheers Dave

I wouldn't bother with the 16v hubs either or with 16v coilovers as the RT ones should be adjustable for stiffness so more than up to the job (I know BRUn used RT ones in his GTT conversion anyway).

I'd only bother going to 16v gear if you wanted the wider track or wanted to get stiffer and lower shocks/springs on the cheap (which 16v items can be had for).
