16v turbo

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

PM Nick Read mate, hes had the conversion done at BB Performance Tuning.

Hope you got deep pockets...

how deep is deep tho? i woz thinkin 2k wud be bout right ill have that in a couple of months once i bought a valver,

ive been in a mess l8ly deciding which car to buy either RS Turbo or Clio 16v,but am gonna go for the valver then "hopefully" get the tubo conversion from either k-tec or bb

well a 16v clio is already as quick if not quicker than an rs turbo standard. but nicks turbo to 250 hp cost bout 8K u wont get much for 2k. maybe head work and cams?

2k, you will need alot more than that

i think the charger nick must have is the high boost

bb do a low boost for around 5k

its all fine and well but 5k/8k could get you some ace stuff or a great car

saying the a tc valver will get you some ace fun!

Power to weight is mental!!!! Not sure id spend 5K+ on the conversion though (would be a real sleeper car!!!!)

an RST with 2k thrown at it will be a lot quicker than if you were to do the same to a valver.

I think it is really! Once youve got them on, you can go to really wild cams without any of the usual problems (idling etc) so would be looking at about 200-210bhp. Doing the turbo conversion would cost a lot more for no real gain - low pressure conversions would be looking at about the same bhp and come with major issues - what about engine stress when the turbo kicks in? With throttle bodies the power delievery is far more useful - power available instantly, even down the rev range - i think they quote a 40% torque increase....

I have driving the low boost turbo and that is very fast and has a very smooth power delivery.

There have been some question about the price £5k for low boost + donor car or £7k for high boost + donor car and these are only basics builds. You could add on another £1K-£2K for nice bits like polish alloy intercool and header tank etc etc but look at the amount of work BB have been done to get their turbo running very smooth and reliable and youll understand how much they have had to invest.

The only thing that lets the power down is the Williams box you use that can only handle 250bhp / 250ftlb or torque but saying that if you have a spare £8k in your pocket you can go for a sequential box, then change the injector and mapping sensors, fuel pump and a few other things and run stupid amounts of HP in excess of 350bhp but then you are back to basics with traction and lack of it through a front wheel drive car.

On the K-tec website they mention summut about it costing 2 - 3k????

Or is that just the DIY jobbie?

Just wondering, but is it possible to have throttle boddies AND a turbo for anyone in the know?

Would be a feckin awesome noise! Cost a bit mind!

It is possible, but its normally found on FWD drag cars in th USA with multi stage nitrous etc i have a piccy somewhere

  Fiat Coupe 20v turbo

I sure there is a Escort RST with throttle bodies been in Max Power etc, was around 300bhp, blue with quad headlights and nasty front grille.

Yup, you can pressure charge throttle bodies, mine will take 2.5bar without a problem, and with a couple of tweaks 6bar!

well am in 2 minds at the minute which car to buy, i had 3 in mind but got it down to 2 now, either Clio 16v or RS Turbo, id like to go the hole hog with the clio if i got it, turbo throttle bodies and maybe nos, id keep the rs turbo standard and just go for looks mainly on that and ice

If youre in that much 2 minds about it, why not buy the 2?!!

Both can be picked up quite cheap nowadays! Youll get the dump valve with 1, and a loud monster growl with the other!

Sorted! Just insurance then

I woudnt bother with a Scort unless its a Series 1, and in that case anyone in their right mind would go for a mint standard one with no mods except maybe a bit of a drop and some engine work.

Valvers will always be rarer and classier than any old Escort. So Id get the valver. but dont expect modding to be cheap with it. If you want cheap bolt on tried and tested stuff, the Escort is definitely the way to go cos every mod has already been tried over the years.

why not drop a gtt engine in your 1.4 RT?

find a donor 5gtt and youre ready to go, and plenty of possibilities to tune it to become a killer...
