16v with over 100k mileage - problems

I was wondering if you are asking for problems if you buy a 16v with over 100k miles on the clock ? How many miles are these engines good for until things go bang ? Been thinking about buying a cheap valver as a project and trackday car and I am sure that most of the cars in my price range will have mileage of over 100k. What sort of things should I be looking at on valvers with this mileage ?

Would I be throwing my money away by buying a valver like this or is there still plenty of life left in it ?

If I do buy one of these, I dont want to be fixing it every month or so.

Any advice would be great.........

There Williams (same engine sort of) with over 200k on them I belive. Milage shouldnt be a problem just give then a full service and it should be fine.

Its age rather than mileage that causes a lot of wear and tear. My Williams with under 60k on the clock is having all the jobs my 105k Valver was having. 60-80k is the most expensive mileage: a car with over 100k will usually have had all the expensive jobs done.

In my experience m8....

Walk away

A performance car like a valver with that sort of milage will be a right dog unless its like 1 owner or something with a checkable service history. Put it this way I wouldnt want to own my 172 when its got 100k on, it will be fooked!

That said if your wanting a track day car youll be changing the consumables regularly anyway so you might have not much more on top of what you would if you were running it on the road

providing the car has been looked after (services etc), then there will not be a problem with it, the engine is very hard wearing.
