17 or 16 duno wot to get

Ive got a basic 1.2 8valve Clio so prob the weakest of the lot. i do want looks but without stingin my to much of my performance (well what i have) 17" look the dogs bollox obv always do.

Just wanna know bout 3 things:

if i get 17" will they rub at all like on full lock or anything i do plan to lower it about 35 as i dont want to have trouble with speed bumps and crap like that. ?

will i loose loads of acceleration (not that i have much now) but will i notice a big difference in acceleration?

and will it slow my car right down like a great deal from what i can just scrape. ?

I know if i get 16" i wont ave much choice and ill wish i got 17" but i know i wont loose hardly any acceleration and itwont look rediculasly high b4 i get it lowered plus it shudnt rub at all. Just would like some advise

Go for something light like OZ Superleggera to reduce the weight of the wheels themselves - that might reduce the negative impact on acceleration?

I reckon go for 17s anyway as we both know that youll wish you had if you go for 16s ;) But yeah, 16s are more practical...

What shape/year is it by the way? Youll struggle to get 17s on an older shape model as the rear-arches are really tight for space. It can be done though, but be prepared for archwork!

Oh, and welcome aboard ;)

  "Navy" N17 TWO

wat year is your clio? i got a 04 dci. old 97 clio had 14" rims lol - still looked nice - wsnt even lowered:D

im in the same boat - 16/17 debate on the brain for weeks now

thinking bout going for 17s - see how they go

if they get too hot to handle then il tak em off an sell em

hope this helps u in your thinking

hope you get replies to your post too - ppl prob sick lookin at mine - they all bout 16/17 " rims

trev

if its an old shape clio then i wouldnt go for 17s! unless your prepared to do some serious arch work! the valver has flared arches and with 17s i still get rubbage on full lock and sometimes at the back with people in it.

if its new shape then 17s will fit no probs, my mates got em on his and lowered 60mm and it looks the nuts! evidently it makes his LOOK faster than mine!

regards

yeh cheers,

the year of my clio is 2002 so its fairly new i alwaysd thought it was the other way round ( the old clio could fit 17" more easily)

I am thinkin more towards 17" because in some cases they are Cheaper then what 16" is which is a bit stupid since there going to look alot nicer just might kill the engine lol.

ill have a look for them OZ Superlegera as well just incase ilike them. I am Tight for cash in a way but i know once i got alloys everything else should be alot easier to get.

that looks really nice,

Has that been lowered at all? it looks like it has

Just for a bit more info on 17" i got told i would have to adjust the trackin on the front wheels and i continue to argue that u wouldnt but just wanna make sure that you wouldnt have to

17"s - even with lightweight OZ SuperLs will adversely affect the accelleration, top speed and handling!! (speaking from first hand experience!)

But its swings and roudabouts! If your only worried about making it look good get 17"s!

And to be honest if i had a 1.2 8v id be more worried about making it look good than its performance! lol

lol aye i soposse i sahould just concentrate on looks but i dont wanna completly Snail it. so far im pretty set on 16" i dont wanna ruin what i got and make handlin and acceleration any worse then what it is.

People got ay pictures of Clios with 16" on just so i can see what they look like ill ave a look around the forum as well like its just so i know what they have on.

talk to liam_dynamique, or whatever his forum name is, hes got your car, year, engine etc and 17s. dont think ive heard a bad word from him on the effect they have on handling, acceleration etc

oh right need to try get hold of him then.

there all mainly my worries about geting 17"

anyone know anywhere i can get some good cheap 16" as in Cheap i mean about £500
