172/182 BHP maths

  white clio 1.82
if a clio 172 phase 1, does 0-60 in 6.8sec and
a clio 182 phase 2, does 0-60 in 6.9sec, what happens when u put them together? let say, puting a 182 engine inside a 172 shell? how can u work the BHP out?

  Audi A3 TDI 170 B.E.
The exta 10bhp comes from the inlet manifold and exhaust iirc.

Other wise the engines are the same.

  BMW M3
Its not a straight lined graph so you cant really work it out. It iwll probably only be about a tenth though.

just because 182 has got 10 more hp, does not mean it is faster.

BHP Sells cars
TORQUE on the other hand wins races.!!!!!!!!!!:approve:

Take the 172 Cup as its the lightest 172, take the 0-60 time (6.5) and subtract 0.1 of a second off it as thats prob all the difference you'll get.

So i'd say about 6.4 secs....unless you complete strip it but then you'll prob only get down to about 6.3 if you wanna nit pick

  BMW M3
IMO a Golf GT TDi only feels quicker because of the torque surge... when i first got the 182, i though my mums 130 golf was faster... huge torque boost.

But when my step dad and i had a little "off roundabout onto dual" race... i was way infront.

All else being about equal, 0.1 seconds off the 0-60 time can be obtained with either a 3% increase in power or a 3% decrease in weight.

The difference between 172 ps and 182 ps is 6%, so it should be worth 0.2 seconds. The question in regard to Clio Sport 172s and 182s is whether the 182 actually produces all those addition 10 ps that Renault claims.

The difference between a mk 2 172 and a 172 Cup is 60-something kgs, which about 6%, so the Cup should be about 0.2 seconds quicker.

Someone who knows how much lighter a mk 1 is than a mk 2 should be able to figure out how much quicker it should be.

mk1 172 gearbox is different too so using a mk2 172 / 182 lump are the preset rev limits different? That'd make a difference 0-60 surely.

But who cares, there's f**k all in it between them all. Most members can't drive properly anyway it's just a pissing contest.

They made the gear ratios shorter on the ph2 172-onwards to maintain the same 0-60 as the ph1 IIRC (req'd due to the extra weight)

and the rev limits different in every gear (not referring to the difference between hot and cold).
