172 - 182 Kerb Weight

  BMW F21 125d
Looking at swapping my 172 to a 182.

Noticed on Parkers that the kerb weight on a 172 is 1035kg, but on a 182 its 1090kg ? Where does all the extra weight come from? I was shocked as I thought the removal of the spare wheel would make it lighter....

All comments welcome.

1035kg is phase 1 kerb weight (according to Renault), the phase 2 172 is 1110kg (again, Renault's figure).

The 182 is 20kg lighter than the 172 (phase 2) due to the missing spare wheel, as you said.

  182 Trophy & Megabusa
MK1 172 - 1035kg
Mk2 172 - 1110kg
172 Cup - 1011kg
182 - 1110kg
182 Cup - 1090kg
182 Trophy - 1075kg

think that is pretty much right!

Woah thats alot of extra weight in my ph2 over a ph1, didnt realise it was that much. Gay.

Also I wouldnt bother moving from a 172 to a 182 unless your 172 is a real shed, waste of money imo, unless you have money to burn of course, but then you would probably have a 200 anyway?

holy s**t, just realised this thread is back from the dead and you already have a 182, lol :D

Old thread bump.

Anyone else find it suspicious that a ph2 is quoted as 75kg heavier than a ph1, when personally having broken both I really cant see ANYWHERE this weight difference could actually occur?

Its also exactly the same amount as specified as the weight of a driver for kerb weights under EU Directive 95/48/EC, so personally I think the only difference is that the early cars didnt include a 75kg driver.

Anyone got any real world data to concur with or contradict my theory?

My Renault book dated 2002 says 1035kg without driver for CB15, CB1C, CB1G, CB1N, CB1S, CB1T. My SPL handbook supplement insert says 1021kg for the cup without driver dated April 2002. Yet the cup brochure clearly says 89kg lighter. Need to get a few models on some scales it seems as Renault don't know what's going on either!

What was the heaviest thing you removed? I went from a metal to fibre glass bonnet with frame on an XR2 and the savings weren't massive.

BUMP!
I have measured weight of my Clio II Ph.1 recently , aprox. 7-8 liters of fuel + spare wheel = weights 1040 Kg, So I guess Chip-Mk1 was right after all!

I am pretty sure I have seen on here somewhere that someone quoted their stripped out Ph1 172 with perspex windows and a cage was 860Kg. Which is good for me as it makes my power to weight ratio in my stripped out Ph1 quite a lot (well for the size of the car anyway!)

Not really sure that seats and an interior can weigh ~150Kg, depending on how heavy bucket seats to replace the front seats. I would have put the intial weight a lot less
