172/182 Newbie questions

  Saxo VTR
:D Hi guys,

As you’ve probably guessed I’m new to this site and I’ve got some newbie questions to ask. Basically I’m contemplating changing my saxo vtr (pics below) for a 182 or 172 later this year and looking for a bit of advice.

I’m like the Clio as I feel it’s a good, sensible step up from my vtr. I want something small, faster, with improved build quality and better spec. I have a 7k budget and hoping to look view some later in the year. I just wanted to ask you guys what you thought about the 172 /182 and which one you think I should consider with some pros and cons? I currently use my car for long journeys, so are Clio’s nice and comfy and what’s the road noise like?

I’m not as sure about the cup versions as I want the best ride quality and the best spec (i.e. air con) I can get. I like the cups, but I think I would rather go for the standard ones unless you guys can persuade meJ

Cheers

Jon

I'd personally buy a Phase 1 172 mainly as you can get them for under £4k plus the wiring etc is simpler and easier to fix and there possibly the best to drive. However internally and exterally the Phase 2 172 and 182 IMO are more modern looking.
For £7k you could pick up a early 182 with a few miles. Most cups full under that price and loads of full fat 172 do.

If you do a lot of miles particuly in the wet early/alate at night I'd get a normal 172 the Cup is a great car and ABS isn't the be all but its still nice to have.

All the 172/182 have the advantages and disadvantages but for you sounds like a later 172 would be ideal one with crusie etc which was a 53 plate time addition along with ESP.

Cheers guys, yeah i think will try to pick up 04 plate 182. I like the more modern look of the ph2 and the dual exhaust look nice as standard. Yeah the i think i would prefer to have all the spec extras like air con, cruise etc as i want something better than the vtr interior wise.

What is Full Fat lol? Does it mean full spec?

Full fat is oftne the name give on here to phase 2 172 which arn't the 172 Cup.

The 182 whilsts it gets the dual exhaust looses the spare wheel whell which is IMO somehting to think about out there no spare just cans of foam.

I went from a 2000 VTS to a 53 ph2 172 in February this year.

Not a great step up in performance. Definately a step down in handling.

Better all round car though. Looks better and has better toys and prestige.

Certainly gets looked at.

late 172s and 182s came with cruise control.
Mine has ESP, Cruise and 6 cd changer.

On the 182 you could get Cup Packs.

Spolier pack got a larger rear spoiler and a plastic front lip spolier

Cup wheel pack got stiffer suspension and anthracite coloured alloys.

I think i'd go for the one with the anthracite alloys, looks good with blue and black. Thanks, thats clarified things a bit more.
