Can someone explain the difference in the offsets.

Would 182 wheels on a 172 stick out more or less?

And vice versa?

Iirc (sure someone will correct me if I am wrong) :)

172 = ET 37 ??

182 = ET 45

Not sure about the sticking out part I will leave that to the experts ;)

offset is basically where the hub face of the wheel is in relation to the centre line on that wheel

ET40 means the hub face of the wheel is 40mm from the centre line

ET30 means its only 30mm from the centre line (hence the wheel sticks out further)

^^ found this too .. hope it helps :)

et37 will stick out toward the edges of the arches more.. wider footprint
et48 will be tucked into the arches, hiding, reducing the footprint, as it were

Profile is to do with the height of the sidewall on the tyres.

ET45 is correct for 182s with cup pack, i have a feeling the offset is different on non cup wheels due to the actual width of the track on the car being less.

  Weeman sucks ****
When I took my turinis off my 172 cup last weekend they said 38.5 if that helps?

It's a distance in mm iirc, not sure from where to where though:S

Thanks for the clarification Si :approve:

No probs. The profile is the second number 205 45 16 on a standard 182 tyre. Its not a height in MM as people assume its actually a percentage of the width (the 205 part) which is measured in MM.

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
182, 182 cup, 182 trophy et45. 172 mk1 et43. 172 mk2 et48.5. 172 cup et38.5 basically its as thedoc says the lower the offset (et) number the further your wheel will stick out from the arch.
